I absolutely loved Bruges. It is a simple yet beautiful city to explore and and just leisurely soak in. I made a day trip out of my visit and spent about 5 hours visiting the town. I had a tour guide to myself so it was a very relaxed walk with a history lesson as the added bonus. Wear comfortable shoes as the cobble stones, although beautiful, are not very forgiving. The town is very white but I was not made to feel uncomfortable at any moment. At the end of my trip, I took a boat and went down the canal for a ride. That is another opportunity to see the place from a different angle. Loved it!

I was in Bruges on a day trip, so after we got a little tour and took a canal boat ride we were allowed to do what we wanted. I tried Belgian beer, waffles, and fries. There is a lot of history around Belgium but if you wanted to fully explore I would say spending 2-3 days is a good idea.

Brugge is a beautiful city 1 hour outside of Brussels. If you have more than 1 day to spend in Brussels,  I highly recommend a day trip there. It looks like a mini Amsterdam with all the canals. Be sure to take a canal boat ride (costs about 10 euros), visit the grand place and climb up the belfry tower for a nice view, walk around the cobblestone streets, eat a waffle and chocolates. If you’re into art, there is a small Dali exhibit museum right at the grand place (10 euros entrance fee). For eating real Belgian food, I would recommend picking a restaurant that is not right in the square. I ate on the square a couple of times and having lived in Belgium for 3 years, I was a bit disappointed. I went there by car but you can get there by bus or the train. There are also organized tours but I’m not a big fan of those so I’m not sure how much they charge. If you have limited time, an organized tour which picks you up at your hotel and drops you off might be an option.
Brugge is located in Flanders but you won’t have any issues even though you dont speak Flemish. Everyone I interacted with spoke English as well. As a black tourist, I didnt feel uncomfortable going around. Brugge is a place 1 day is enough to visit because it’s not a very big city and all the attractions are located close to each other. Just head to the city centre and take it from there.
    Happy travels
P.S. I lived in Belgium for 3 years and have traveled throughout the country so if you have any questions, feel free to message me @Finding_Kiki

Bruges is an absolutely beautiful medieval city with its cobblestone streets and historic churches. This was a quick stop on our way back to London, so quick I’m not sure I should even count Belgium as a country visited. I wandered around admiring the architecture and stopped into a few shops to sample the Belgian beer. The highlight of this stop had to be the Belgian waffles and the chocolate! Other than this city satisfying the architecture enthusiast in me, I’m not sure if Bruges is a city that I would revisit, but it was the perfect city for a day trip.

Bruges is one my favourite cities in Europe. It is charming any time of the year, regardless of the weather conditions. Bruges is the perfect places to walk around with a good camera to capture amazing pictures of the various canals, bridges and well preserved medieval buildings. My favourite moment is during night, when the crowds are gone and you have the reflection of buildings on the water. The Rozenhoedkaai canal gives you the post-card perfect picture. The nocturnal light enhances the beauty of this emblematic place. Let’s not forget about the Belgian cuisine and beers. You can find good and affordable restaurants in the main square called Market Place Belfry, where you can also appreciate the view of Belfry tower. The tower is a UNESCO World Heritage site, where stands a bell tower built in the fifteenth century. You can climb the 366-steps on the hour to hear the tower’s incredible ensemble of bells ringing. Tickets cost 10euros. It is a beautiful experience.

I visited Brugges in July and although it rained during this time it was a lovely destination. When in Brugges I recommend that you try Belgium Hot Chocolate, the cherry beer and mussels.
Some of the locals aren’t friendly in Brugges, however i don’t think it was to do with my skin colour. I say this because the person i was travelling with was caucasian and they experienced the same thing. Overal I felt safe travelling as a black women in Brugge.

If I ever had to go on run you can find me here. I like this little city because there is not much to do that most black people find attractive. I enjoy the boat rides through the winding river in the city while have a drink and just relaxing looking at the older buildings. The food is great. Of course you have to visit a chocolate shop and have your selection of the finest “Milky Way” in the world. I recommend this place for older people who just want a small town that is not busy and relaxing. No hurry no fuss.

Hands down, my favorite city that I’ve visited my whole life. This city has so much charm. From all the bars and clubs open until the morning to the chocolate stores and waffle stores. It just simply has it all.

Brugge is Belgium’s most enchanting city and the fact that they still use horses as one of their modes of transportation was one of my fondest memories about this beautiful city. Only from a boat can tourist truly appreciate and explore the scenic pathways of Brugge. The boat tour provides an entirely different view of the medieval city’s historic buildings, bringing likeminded tourist up close to some of the town’s most incredible sites that can easily go unnoticed. A true visit to Brugge would not be complete without tasting some of Belgium’s famed treats! Up to date, I still crave the most delicious waffle I ever had at Chez Albert as I explored Bruge four years ago.

Brugge is a small little town but really nice. If you are there in the summer catch a bus to the beach it’s only like 10 minutes. Also you can go to London very easy from there for like 25 euro. That’s what most people do from visiting Belgium. They have a lot of little stores with things you will not find anywhere else.

The Christmas market in Brugge has to have been one of my favorite experiences during my winter holidays in 2015. Who doesn’t love hot wine and ice skating? I recommend taking the free walking tour (a tip is suggested at the end.) I love to learn a bit of history when I travel and to be quite frank, I enjoyed Brugge more than Brussels. It’s a quaint picturesque town that’s a must if you’re planning a trip to Amsterdam or Brussels.
