So much rich history in Luanda. It’s a hidden gem in Africa. It is the Brazil of Africa! Learned a lot about some of the great leaders including Women King, Queen Nzingha, Kizomba (one of their traditional dances, and Angola’s role in the transatlantic slave trade. Highly reccomend traveling there and exploring the culture

Angola is one of the hidden places that everyone should explore now that is not that “popular”.

Yes, Luanda is the capital and it’s expensive. The tickets from Europe can cost you around 700$-1000$. My advice will be to get a ticket from Lisbon to Luanda, tickets are normally less expensive. Use Airlines like TAAG, TAP or AirFrance.

This city has so much to offer and if you connect with locals that are super friendly, they will give all the tips to save and stuff. In the city, there is so much to do.

1- Ilha de Luanda: Beautiful and with plenty of restaurants by the sea. From the beginning to the end of Ilha street. If you want less expensive choices while in Ilha, and also want to try some local food, stop by Chikala.
2- Saint Michael Fortress: It’s right in the city. If you want to know more about Angolan history + it has one of the best views of the city.
3- Cabo Ledo: Cabo Ledo is about 30-40 minutes from Luanda center BUT it is so worth it going. The drive is amazing, beauty after beauty and has one of Angolan’s most beautiful beaches “Praia dos Surfistas”
4- Quiçama National Park: Love animals? You will love this park.
5- Mussulo Island: Another beautiful place to relax is a beautiful Island called Mussulo. There is a lot of resorts and its only one boat away from Luanda city.

These are only 5 things to do in Luanda. As I said, there is so much more. This place is very unique. You won’t regret it. And remember, Luanda is just the capital, ANGOLA has SO MUCH more. Go explore!

Luanda is one of the top most expensive cities to visit but if you know your ins and out is definitely possible to visit it on a budget.
Flight tickets usually start from $900 and up. From places in Europe it can be couple dollars cheaper.
Hotels are very expensive my suggestion will be Airbnb since there are few people offering that and there are rooms for as low as $30 per night
High end restaurant there are a lot of those but if you visit the Chikala area there are restaurants with authentic Angolan food that are very affordable
Things to do: beaches are free, museums are free, bars and most clubs are free to get in.
There are plenty of nature surrounding Luanda area that one can visit for free
