    Mauritius is an amazing experience. Mauritius people are very helpful and friendly. Everybody is speaking English and a lot of them speak French too, but the local language is kreyol. This destination is good for discover tropical nature and different landscapes. I stayed at Grand Bay in a hotel, a seaside city with tourist beaches. The most famous beach is Pereybere. You have to go at Chamarel waterfall and see the 7 coloured earth (very famous attraction), Trou aux biches is a beautiful beach and you can snorkelling. There is a big big market where you can find everything and cheaper is Quatre Bornes. And then, you must visit Casela a wonderful park to explore the flora and fauna. In this park, you can see many animals walking around and You can walk and touch lions for about 30 minutes. You have to sign a release saying that you know the lions are untreated and you will not turn against the park in case of injury. The price is 250 rupees, so around 6 €. The lions are calm just after eating but they are digesting otherwise they can attack people. I’ll come back for sure in Mauritius I felt in live with this island.

    After spending 2 weeks at the Reunion Island, we decided to visit Mauritius which is only 45 mins away and we LOVED IT !

    We mostly stayed at the beach, we went on a boat tour, did some diving. It was a great experience in overall. We didn’t have a chance to eat local food but we will definitely go back to visit more places.

    I visited Mauritius in August of 2000 on a family vacation – so I apologize if some of my information is a bit outdated.
    Mauritius is a quaint island just off of the east coast of South Africa and is approximately a 4h flight from JHB international airport. Airfare to Mauritius is fairly affordable, and this probably why it is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations. This island which was formerly a french colony still bears some influences of the french culture. The language spoken in Mauritius is Creole, which is a derivative of the French language.

    Sugar cane is/was one of the main crops in Mauritius owing to its humid, tropical climate. As a result, much of the sugar cane was exported . On the basis of such I would suggest a visit to the Sugar Museum and Factory. The factory was used till about the late 1970s and is home to some really old machinery. Here you are also able to taste some original rum which was made on site when the factory was operational. It is quite an interesting site.

    Some other noteworthy places ;
    – Pamplemous Gardens : Here you can see the giant water lilys and take in some of the beautiful natural features of the island
    – La Chamarel (7 coloured sands) : the result of volcanic activity , quite a phenomenon
    – Visit the captial Prot Louis
    – Grand Baie
    – Fort Adelaide in Port Louis

    Mauritius offers a wide range of water sports and underwater activities such as ;
    -Speed boating
    -Snorkelling
    – Scuba Diving
    -Swimming with dolphins
    – Marine Walk (Underwater)

    For specific information regarding any of the activities you can arrange at your hotel.

    The people in Mauritius are all very pleasant and ever willing to help. This makes the overall stay even more enjoyable. It is a great place for a relaxing beach getaway.

    Lots of water activities to do as it is an island. Snorkel, Parasailing, catamaran boat rides with on board braai/barbeque. Lots of other water activities and sports. Loved it
