We fly into Melbourne and rented a car as we wanted to drive up the coast.
There are so many things to do in Melbourne, especially if you’re near the beach. We stayed in the St. Kilda area and was only a 5 min walk to the beach. There are tons of nice restaurants to eat at and you can rent those blue bikes and ride around town.

We wanted to take a hot air balloon tour but the weather didn’t allow for it so we did it in Sydney.

If you have the time definitely do a driving tour up or down the coast. There are so many beautiful beaches to see. For example, we loved Jervis Bay.

Cairns is a short flight from Sydney to the Great Barrier Reef. You can buy a ticket and do a full day’s tour out on the reef. Lunch and drinks are included. We even did the helicopter tour of the reef.

We really enjoyed Australia and considered moving there. Everyone was so friendly and the weather was perfect!

We’ll have to go back and o Perth next time!

Melbourne was a wonderful surprise to me. I visited after Sydney and my first impressions wasn’t so great since I loved Sydney so much. But incense I started exploring it was amazing.

I stayed in the CBD at the Langham. Amazing hotel and luxurious accommodations. I highly recommend. It was really easy to get around the city. Even though they have Hop On Hop Off buses I wouldn’t recommend Bc the city has free Tram that you can get in and it gets you in most of the city’s cool places. If you venture out of the free tram zone the fee is minimal or you could simply walk. A very walkable city.

If you’re a foodie, you will be in foodie heaven. It’s a melting pot and you can find all sorts of cuisines – from Korean, to French, to ITALIAN, to Vietnamese and so much more. My favorite was a small Cafe I stumbled across while walking called Breizoz French Creperie in the Fitzroy area. It was simply best crepe I’ve ever had. Even better than those I’ve had in Paris. And the coffee just like all cafe’s in Melbourne is amazing.

If you’re a coffee snob like most Australians, you’re also in coffee heaven when you’re in Melbourne. I never thought I’d love the coffee as much as I did and when I left I knew that would be what I would miss most. It’s different and it tastes amazing. You can’t go wrong at any Café.

I suggest getting on the free tram and making your way to the Federation square and walking Dow. Swanson st. Lots to do and see. So much shopping too if you like that. The National Art Galleria of Victoria should be high on your list if you love art and want to Fred your creative palate. Its also free to enter and explore. The streets are filled with different characters and it’s great to just ppl watch while sitting at a cafe. Be sure to also enjoy quiet time at Victoria Botanical Garden. It is exquisite and was one of my favorite things to do.

If you’re in Melbourne you must do a day trip or couple days trip out on the Great Ocean Road. The view is simply amazing. You can see the Gorge and Shipwreck beach. There is nothing I can put in words that would remotely describe the beauty. But even more amazing is the 12 Apostles. Especially at sunset as you gaze upon the sky turning orange and teasing the Pacific. Just being there, taking it all in is a feeling that I’ll always cherish.

Melbourne, capital of the Australian state of Victoria, is a beautiful, modern city with tonnes of attractions from the world famous graffiti of Hosier Lane to amazing city beaches but the real thrill is to be had when you venture outside of the city. Drive about 3 hours south west and explore the natural attractions of the Great Ocean Road-the 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge etc! Truly breathtaking. Watch out for the “Kangaroo crossing” caution signs and speed cameras (Victoria is notorious for hefty speeding fines and speed limits are strictly enforced).

Getting to Melbourne is easy. Melbourne airport receives international flights from various destinations. It is also a short 1hr 30min flight from Sydney and budget airlines are available.

I visited in winter and hotel prices were reasonable. I stayed in 2 different hotels, a cosy but nice boutique hotel in the charming St Kilda neighbourhood and another slightly more expensive hotel in the city centre, close to China Town.

Melbourne itself is a safe, cosmopolitan city but my biggest surprise was how few there were people of African descent. That was not a problem though, because everyone was friendly. Definitely recommend!

Melbourne pronounce Mel-Bin is a city full of things to do. There are many parts of Melbourne but if you want to get in on the night scene you will have to pay a visit to the CBD which is Downtown Melbourne. There are a bunch of pubs, free trams to get around the city and night clubs you can hit. One of my favorites was a bar called the Little Pony that sits on the Yarra River and a cool hip hop night club that also serves Hookah would have to be a club called Trill! You won’t want to miss out on that one !

I visited Melbourne for five days and it was good. There are many different markets to visit and the public transportation there is great. I often use trains and trams when I travel abroad so I was pleased. Almost every local I met there said they loved my American accent lol.
