Went on a study abroad to Vienna also called Wien, the city of music, to learn about its music history! I stayed at Mercure Hotel Wien City across Salztorbrücke, a bridge, and it was very meh. I would not recommend. Breakfast was okay and it seemed like it was cheap.

But I enjoyed my time in Vienna! Although not necessarily free, they just don’t check the tickets, the public transport gets you where you need to go all over the city and it’s clean and safe! I highly recommend getting this pass that allows you to do many attractions free with transport included.
    Buy pass here: https://www.getyourguide.com/vienna-l7/vienna-pass-all-of-vienna-on-one-card-t50028/?partner_id=SVNU3W4&currency=USD&travel_agent=1&cmp=share_to_earn

Some things I did that I recommend you do are below:
Check out the Resting Place of Beethoven at Central Cemetery
In the Summer, Toboggan on the country side
Visit the Belvedere or Schonbrunn Palace
Visit the Freud Museum to see Vienna’s overlapping history with Sigmund Freud, founder of psychoanalysis
    Try Wiener Schnitzel of COURSE!
Go to Volksoper for the Opera
Haus Der Musik is the best place if you enjoy music and an interactive museum experience
Check out the street art at the Danube Canal

Vienna doesn’t have too many people of color, but the most I got from people were stares! Definitely a laid back part of Europe… I recommend it if you love music and history but want a more small city-feel destination.

    Austria is okay, just okay.

We spent 2.5 days there. We did a walking tour to understand the history, see where Hitler did a famous speech, learned all about the incestuous royal histories in Europe (lol), tried Wiener schnitzel and got to see how insane Austrians get for Easter (it’s bigger than Christmas over there, bunnies everywhere!).

But we also got to see some of the remains of a very imperialistic past, for instance Meinl, it’s a famous coffee brand (google it) still has the face of an African Child on it to this day! When we questioned our guide after seeing numerous castles, courtyards and Hitler haunts, she kind of brushed over it like it was nothing.

Not a ton of diversity walking the streets. We visited Demals Chocolates, to try a famous tort cake, which was very good and rich, but we were the only people of color.

One night we did visit a wine garden in the suburbs which we were able to take a bus and train to get to and we were serenaded by an accordion trio?!

We stayed in a renovated hotel near where Mozart lived, which overlooked a beautiful courtyard.

Austria is very walkable and safe, the food is okay and it’s clean. We got a few stares here and there, but we were treated nicely. They take the Euro and it’s easy to get in and out of by train to other European countries, we came in from Budapest. It was March when I was there, so it was still chilly and it’s near the water. Perhaps it’s different in summer?

I likely wouldn’t go back, it was not the most memorable.

Vienna is a wonderful city in the East of Europe.
I got there from Paris from Charles de Gaulle airport, it’s around 2 hours of flight.
The city of Vienna is full of History with many wonderful buildings, nice architecture, good nightlife and a lot of museums, bar, restaurants and so on…
I went there both for work and private life, and I appreciate all the time I went there, especially in summer where we can enjoy life outside.
If you like museum I recommand Laimgrube quarters, it’s THE place to be for museums !
If you like castles just go to Schönbrunn Palace, or Hofburg (Sisi museum).
I stayed in many places but one of the best hotel is “Hotel Roomz Vienna Prater” (https://www.roomz-hotels.com/) : the rooms are perfect and the breakfast is TOP !

I recommend to visit Vienna during christmas, it has been one of the best experience in Vienna !!!!
Vienna is really close to Slovakian capital Bratislava, you can take the bus (1h30) or train (30mn) to get there. Really practical to visit 2 countries in one trip :D

Vienna is one of the prettiest cities I have visited since moving to Europe. Its is clean, inviting, and full of life even while exploring the past. We did a free walking tour through Good Vienna Tours. The tour is free, but they ask that you tip what you feel the tour was worth to you. Bring cash for a tip. ATMs were few and far between, and unless its from a legit bank it’s a rip off. Our tour guide Wolfgang was knowledgable, humorous, and a great overall resource. We did the tour, because sometime when you go to a city and you want to do everything. But you lose so much time trying to figure our where everything is. With a tour you get a knowledgable guide to help you map out your next move. For food make a reservation at Figlmuller for the best and largest schnitzel you ever had in your life. I can not stress enough to make a reservation, OR you will have to wait in line that is usually outside the door. I emailed the restaurant and was able to get a reservation. That allowed me to skip the line, and some weren’t happy about it. Oh well! lol For the best pictures get there before places open and they get crowded. Fashion wise step it up. You cannot go there looking like that American going to Walmart.

    Things to do:
    -Belvedere
    -Kaisergruft
    -Liechtenstein Castle
    -Schönbrunn Palace – UNESCO
    -Historic Centre of Vienna UNESCO
    -Cafe Central
    -Try Sachertorte

If you are an art or history fan . For example the Beleverde Castle and Schonbrune Castle are must see. There is a large church in the city center called Stephanzplatz that is beautiful. Vienna one of the few major cities in Austria that did not suffer major damage from the war. Also vienna has been voted the most livable city in the world for the 10th year in the world. Vienna is one of the most beautiful cities to visit. Majority of the people speak English in the city as well. So it is very easy to travel around the city. Food is cheap and public transit is very affordable.

I visited Vienna in April for 2 days. The weather this time of year is lovelyl
I personally am not in a rush to go back there as I didn’t find the locals to be as friendly as in Innsbruck.
I also found at times it was overcrowded, but i guess you get that with any city.
A positive is that Vienna has a lot to see and do, so you will never get bored if you plan your day.
The food here is also really good.
I went to this restaurant called Zum Leupold and the desert was out of this world. I had the homemade apple strudel and my friend had the sacher. I would highly recommend!! I loved it so much i went back twice.

I was recently traveling to Vienna and was amazed by this great city. Since I have some friends in Town it was even better because I had the chance to see Vienna from a different perspective and dive in with some locals. My friends took me on a cool tour with Prime Tours first was the culinary where I was offered some great local drinks and snacks and riding on a Kickbike. Scooter like and very fund to use. They told me that they also offer Street Art Tours which I also did since I really enjoyed the food tour. They are the experts in Vienna when it comes to these tours. I learned a lot about the history of Street Art and also spotted some really nice graffitis and murals as they call them. Also Vienna has a really cool nightlife! Especially when it comes to local electronic music the Spittelau is a great Place which hosts two clubs: Grelle Forelle and Werk. Been to both and had the best night outs ever!

I went to Vienna as a day trip from Slovakia (Flixbus). Just about an hour away, I think 1 day was more than enough for me. I did the walking tour which was great (https://www.goodviennatours.eu/). There wasn’t much to do, I did try the Sachetorte.. that was okay-ish. And then I headed back to Slovakia.

Don’t hesitate to contact me I have itineraries of all my trips and happy to share with you: info@iamdrwanderlust.com

Austria is a beautiful place. White water rafting was a dream. It was hard to gauge the culture of Austria since most people I encountered were from other countries.

I planned an extended layover in Vienna on my way to another country, so I had about a day and a half here. My sister and I dropped our luggage off at the hotel and went out to start our adventures without even going to our room. However, after the full day, we felt that we had knocked everything off the to do list.

We went to the Spanish Riding School, a cathedral, Schönbrunn Palace, Hundertwasserhaus, St. Peter’s Church, and a few other sites. Most of the stops were not very interactive, but just taking in the beautiful architecture and detailed artwork. While it is worth appreciating, it left our visit at each stop pretty brief and uneventful. We did try to do a tour at the palace, but the wait time for 3+ hours. We went to dinner on a rooftop and watched the sunset over the stunning city.

This is not at all to say not to go, but I think it’s best as a short trip if you like active vacations. If you are a history buff– maybe this destination would be for you! Or if you are looking for a romantic vacation, I do have to say that the city had a lot of charm and beauty.

Vienna is extremely beautiful. Is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen. I know this city has a bad reputation when it comes to foreigners, specially blacks but to be honest (I spent like 2 days there) my time there was wonderful. People were ok, not the nicest people on Earth but very decent. We didn’t have any type of problems. The food is good, the service in general is ok and the people in general mind their own business. It has a rich history so the visit was definetly worth it!
