He knew that other travelers had the same concerns as him and that there was no platform that could tell them this information about tips, so he created Green Book Global, a dedicated Black travel review site. The Green Book
Green Book Global is similar to the Negro Motorist Green Book, a travel guide for Black Americans first published in 1936, to help make travel safe during tips in the segregation era of the United States.
During the Jim Crow laws. Black people were not allowed to use the same facilities as white people. They often had trouble finding places to stay or eat while on the road.
Additionally, violence in “sundown towns” where Black people were not allowed to be after dark was also listed in the Green Book so that travelers could avoid them. Essentially, this guide became known as the “Black Travel Bible”. Because of how helpful it was to have businesses identified that would welcome Black patrons.
Green Book Global is a modern take on this by not only identifying cities that are black-friendly. But also providing reviews and ratings of these cities. This way, you can make an informed decision about where to go and what to do when you travel.

The Rating System
Each city on Green Book Global is given a city review out of five stars. Which is based on a number of factors Each category gets its own five-star rating. So you can get a good idea of what the city is like in that area. The categories are:
- Traveling while Black: How safe the city is for Black travelers? Does it feel like there is prejudice or racism towards Black people in this city? Or does it feel like you’re right at home? This category is the most important one as it deals with feeling safe while traveling.
- Things to do: This is the number of activities you can do in the city, ranging from attractions to nightlife. If there are lots of things to do, whether it’s by yourself, with a significant other, or with a family, this will get a high score.
- Adventure: Is there anything that can get your heart pumping? A journey you can go on? If you want an exciting trip, look for 5 start adventure destinations.
- Relaxation: Are there any activities that can help you relax and de-stress while traveling? Does it have a beach, wine, massage parlors? If so, this rating means that the city moves at a slow pace, perfect for unwinding.
