Being home of the University of Michigan Ann Arbor prides itself in being one of the most intelligent cities in the nation. With that being said our extreme liberal culture doesn’t really find a room for racism outright but it’s definitely disguised as classism systemically at times. Black and brown people and black and brown spaces are hard to find in Ann Arbor but we are here. Ann Arbor has a vibrant live music scene and a variety of choices for whatever type of light nightlife you enjoy from theater shows to craft beers and even night clubs that feature a variety of music and demographics. Ann Arbor is a foodie heaven. The food is multicultural and vast in Ann Arbor. We have our townie favorite restaurants and new favorites opening all the time. Traveling While Black
Although there is not a lot of Black people, Ann Arbor is made up of liberal white people and diverse international community because of the university. It is expensive, more expensive than it should be for a town of its size. I would only visit if visiting family or the university. There are things to do and it has a nice sized downtown. It’s only about a 45min drive from Detroit.
