I just returned from a weekend with my sisters in South Padre Island. We drove from Houston which took us around 5 1/2 hours. We had no issues while traveling. The beach was beautiful and clean and not as crowded as I thought it would be. The water was clear and beautiful. It was worth the drive to see the blueish green water. We rented a condo which was close to the beach and town. It was reasonably priced for a trip we planned last-minute. The island is very laid back and has a much slower pace than here in Houston. There are a variety of restaurants. We ate at a place called Daddy’s which is a Cajun restaurant and it was good. The food was seasoned to our liking and passed the Louisiana food check as that is where we are from. My sisters had alcoholic drinks and they said they were not disappointed at all. There is much to do and if you don’t want to walk, they have a free shuttle that goes around the island. You can also rent a golf cart. Just be sure to look around to find which one fits your needs and budget.
Learned a lot while there and we will be returning. They want to bring their families next time and we will rent a larger place to stay. Overall, it was a safe and relaxing place to visit.
