Lexington, Kentucky isn’t on anybody’s bucket list for Black travel but, located 45 miles outside the Midwest metropolis of Louisville, its perimeter boasts prime access to the Bourbon Trail and over 65 wineries. The city of Lexington is also home to one of only 19 sake distilleries in the entire United States. Lexington also has a rich history of Black arts and Black-owned businesses including the monthly Origins Jazz series; Creauxa NOLA-themed bar that features local soul and hip hop talent from around the area and fried fish so good it could smack your mama: and the rotating cast of entrepreneurial upstarts at Julietta market that houses a think tank space for Black businesses as diverse as everything from children’s clothing to an ice cream shop.
