My view is going to be biased because I was visiting my partner’s family, but I have never felt unsafe my last two trips to the Azores. The people are kind (even if your grasp of the language is minimal) and it’s just a gorgeous place to be!

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to!!! Everyone was very friendly and, as a Black woman, I never felt unsafe, even high up in remote mountains. Very easy to get around by public transit. Food at Casa Velha is SO GOOD!!! Must try the local dish “prego” along with the sangria.
