We had no problem traveling while black because we traveled during daylight hours . Only complaint is the Waze App sent us through several small white towns in Mississippi and Alabama coming from Memphis, My husband and I are both retired black police officers and we know how to respond if or when we get pulled over.
Anyway, Orange Beach was nice, quiet and peaceful. Our Airbnb oceanfront apartment was on Perdido Beach Boulevard’s private beach area. It was very over priced. We could tell that some of the white people were not used to us being there. We even caught one white teenager taking a photo of us while we sat on our patio. The white people either ignored us or acted too friendly (we are southern people so this is the usual treatment). A black resident at a restaurant told us to be careful as we explored the city.
All in all we were not impressed. Panama City is better as far as the hospitality and quality of oceanfront Airbnbs. This was our first and last trip to Orange Beach.

Went to Orange Beach, Al,(off season in December) on a suggestion from my cousin. I love the atmosphere, plenty of seafood restaurants to eat at. We stopped at a spot for gator bites, Fish River Grill, Gulf Shores, AL. A smaller restaurant, wasn’t crowded, family atmosphere, servers were down to earth and friendly. The other spot, the Original Oyster House, Gulf Shores, AL., we loved the food, but not the service, very crowded and noisy. Overall, nice atmosphere for it to be in December, the weather was great!!
