I traveled to SLC for work and was there for three long months. Overall vibe is passive aggressive at best, if you don’t fit the local mormon demographic, expect to constantly be glared at, followed in stores, etc. Most food is bland outside of the Pacific Island (Tongan & Samoan) restaurants. The mountains are gorgeous and the city overall is pretty enough, but the people absolutely ruin it.
From a work perspective – I work in healthcare. Every patient in the ER during my time at Intermountain Medical Center that was labeled as “aggressive” or “drug seeking” was also a person of color and 99% did not fit those criteria. As always, ymmv.

Traveling While Black
If you’re ever in utah for any reason, longer than 2 days, take a dip into any canyon. Yes, little to no cell service but you stay on the main most folks will leave you be. Of course, don’t be there before or after the sun is unavailable due to these ppl will look for an opportunity for an issue. Keep protection handy for wildlife or wild folk. Be safe!

Traveling While Black
Went to u of u, so lived in slc… taught that “the blacks tend to be dropouts and no one knows why” & had a vagrant approach me while getting off the train to ask me if I wanted to know why they were angry at all the blacks. Ymmv

Traveling While Black
We traveled into SLC, rented a car, grabbed K-Hot Pot from near the airport (had Uncle in the name), drove down to Green River, UT and stayed in a BnB for two nights(hard to describe how small these towns are), drove to see the arches and canyon lands, all was beautiful and nothing weird happened pertaining to my race. We then stayed in Syracuse, UT for the remainder of our week long trip. Micro-aggressions? Maybe.
