Recently visited the city and set out to find local black-owned eateries. Hit the jackpot!!
First I’ll start with Cajun Snowcones. Best snow cones I’ve ever had, nachos nostalgic of my elementary school field days and service was amazing. The ice was soooo soft and there were many flavors and toppings to choose from.
Next is Scott’s Teacakes. OMG!!! They have many flavors to choose from. I got original, butter, lemon, and peanut butter. They bake them fresh while u wait so u don’t have to worry about having old and stale cookies. They serve ice cream and other small finger foods as well. Young man working was very well mannered and professional.
Last is Orlandeauxs. This place has amazing 180 views of a lake, great staff and music. They’re famous for their stuffed shrimp and has been around for over 100yrs. Food was so good I had to go lay down as I went into a food coma lol. There’s a wait but it’s not too long and it’s definitely worth it!
These 3 places are the epitome of black excellence.
There’s plenty of black-owned bars such as Styles Bar, Haze, Uptown to name a few all with different vibes but enjoyable depending on the crowd you like to be around. There’s 3 major casinos but not many places to shop. There are a lot of black owned boutiques I didn’t get to visit.
Now the city itself is a little dangerous depending on what parts you go to so keep your head on a swivel.
