So during this pandemic my friends and I were craving oversea flights so bad but we couldn’t cross the sea. We told ourselves if we can’t do international flights why not just travel within our country at least. So within that same week, we spontaneously booked our flights and a lovely Airbnb located in Canmore, Alberta which is one hour away from Calgary city as well as one hour away from Banff National park. The Airbnb is actually in the Solara Resort and Spa. We had a blasting view of the Canadian Rockies to wake up to every morning. We were at a walkable distance from the Main Street where the restaurants, bars and lounges are. Before heading to Banff National Park, we went for brunch at this breakfast place called Chez François, the service was excellent and so was the food. You can avoid paying entrance fees to the National Park by getting a free pass at the counter of the resort (if you stay there). Once inside the site, you have many. options. We specifically wanted to see Lake Louise so we drove all the way to the lake Louise parking lot. Some people park a little further so they can hike their way to the Lake. As soon as we arrived we were all mesmerized by it’s beauty. It was such a breathtaking view. Nature is fascinating even a picture couldn’t give it its full justice. If you want to take a closer look you can also take a relaxing canoe ride. Beside Lake Louise there are also other sites to see and lots of activities to do in the Park such as hiking tours, helicopter rides, zipline tour, cave tours, atv tours, wildlife tours etc. I will definitely go back for the sites that I didn’t get to see.
The scenery is just breathtaking.
The Gondola ride, hot spring ,natural springs spa, mountain steam wellness, food ,culture and scenery alone is just a die for.If you looking for a place to escape where you can enjoy nature this is a place to visit.Banff is a resort town in the province of Alberta, located within Banff National Park. The peaks of Mt. Rundle and Mt. Cascade, part of the Rocky Mountains, dominate its skyline. On Banff Avenue, the main thoroughfare, boutiques and restaurants mix with château-style hotels and souvenir shops. The surrounding 6,500 square kilometres of parkland are home to wildlife including elk and grizzly bears.
Banff is absolutely amazing. I’ve been to many national parks in the U.S. and a few in Canada, and Banff is my favorite by far. I went early fall, a little less touristy and crowded then the summer, but not too cold. I also camped, so it was very affordable. Driving through alone is beautiful, but going on the hikes rewards you with absolutely stunning views. My favorite hike was the Lake Agnes Trail up to the tea house (go early for the sunrise!!) then going further up to the “Beehive”. If you’re looking for something even easier, stroll up to Peyto Lake (and you can keep walking past the viewpoint to get to an even higher viewpoint – and likely have the space to yourself!). I definitely want to go back!
If you are looking for an amazing, yet freezing cold spot to visit, look no further! Banff is what you see in every mountain, cold picture. The views are unreal. The cabins, are logged, heated, and filled with adventure. We found the cabin on airbnb, as there are many options, and the Banff upper hotsprings has package deals including the gondola and sometimes even skiing. Enjoy the cold in the hot springs where you are surrounded by snow, mountains willed with icicles, and beauty. Frozen lakes, stunning, and an amazing Gondola ride that will take you thousands of feet up to look down at God’s creation. Banff is one of my favorite spots in Canada, hands down!!
Visit Banff during the summer time, preferably the months of July – September when the sun comes out to play and it’s not too icey. Lots of scenic mountains surround this small but beautiful town. Your adventures around this area don’t just stop with Banff, visit the Lake Louis which is about 45 minutes drive from Banff, enjoy a meal at the fairmount hotel in Lake Louis and you can hike up to the Little Tea House. Visit Lake Moraine for some wonderful blue waters and snowy Rocky Mountains while you’re still in the area, you can also rent a canoe for an hour to enjoy the waters. I’d also recommend the Banff hot springs especially if you’re visiting during the winter time.
About 30 minutes drive from Banff, you can also visit the Johnston Canyon which is all made up of beautiful waterfalls and about 45 minutes hikable walk in the mountains.
A lot of tourists in these areas, my preferred time to tour anywhere is always at sunrise or sunset when there’s not a lot of people around.
You can book your accommodation at Lake Louis Lodge, which is about $400 CAD / Night or Air bnb, hostels, lodges around Banff are all available. I’d also highly recommend renting a car for your own travel convenience, or they have some really good guided tour options around the area you’d be able to get that information from the hotel front desk.
Canadians are very friendly, so don’t be afraid to approach anyone or ask questions if you’re not sure about your surroundings.
Banff, Alberta is probably one of the most beautiful places you will ever go. I think it’s one of those places you will keep shouting, “pull over” because everywhere you go is a photo opp.
We flew in to Toronto and then into Calgary. There is no other way to get to Banff if you are flying in as Calgary is the closest airport. Hotels are expensive and will be completely sold out in the high season so do yourself a favor and go on a shoulder season. Also it will be crowded if you go in the summer for example. It gets so crowded that they close down roads to majoe attractions like Moraine Lake and Lake Louise.
Plan your trip out before you go to maximize your time. There is so much to see and do. Between hiking, swimming, canoeing, gondola rides, hot springs there is something for everyone just watch out for the bears.
