I spent about a month is Australia and only 1 day in Brisbane. It is a nice relaxing city but not really much to do. However, it is a great location to travel to other nearby cities cheaply. I ended up spending 2 days in Airlie Beach which is a short plane ride from Brisbane. It is also located on the Great Barrier Reef and much less crowded and less expensive than traveling to Cairns to see it. It is also the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands where Whitehaven Beach is. There are plenty of things to do from snorkeling to scuba diving to ocean rafting. Whitehaven beach can only be reached by helicopter or boat and is extremely isolated which to me makes it even more serene and beautiful. Ocean rafting was definitely the highlight of this trip, think white water rafting times 100. It will definitely get your heart racing especially if your captain travels through the “devil’s washing machine” which is an area of rough water that made the hour long boat ride to Whitehaven that much more exhilarating. The raft can travel up to 40mph and we were out during a very windy day so it was like riding a roller coaster on the water. I booked with https://oceanrafting.com.au/tours/ and highly recommend them. Airlie Beach is definitely a must stop location if you will be in Cairns or Brisbane.
I spent a couple of months during a WHV in 2015 (it starts to be a long time but I pretty much sure you will find in the same areas some bars and restaurants).
If you are looking for an on budget accomodation for few days you have to target some big backpacker hostels around the Roma Street rail station (YMCA, YHA, Nomad Brisbane hotel, …), this area full of hostels or backpacker houses are central and close to the nightlife neighboor.
Before to go out and have few drinks in Fortitude Valley take some times to check the Story bridge during the night (you won’t be disapointed)
Except few bars and clubs in the Downtown (like the Downunder bar) you will find most of the good places to hang out in The Fortitude Valley area. Be ready to spend a couple of dollars (drinks are very expensive).
If you are looking for more confort but still on the budget you can check some flatsharing in the downtown or around Cathedrale place (it will be more expansive than hostels but you will be proud to say to your friends that you have your own bathroom and shower ahaha).
If you can affort it you will find the best places to stay in Brisbane (based on my point of view) in South bank, New Farm, Newstead and Red Hill (a little bit far from the center). In these nice areas (more family or couple friendly) you will find some nice parks, shops (bigger and cheaper than in the Downtown), playground area, … Very nice to walk around, watch the sunset or just have a nap in a park I am sure you will love it.
Maybe from my last time there some stuffs have changed but you know Australia is running with another time zone ahaha (this is OZ Mate).

Cozumel is probably one of our favorite places to visit. We already know exactly where we want to go and get good food. That at Tequila Beach Club. The food is AMAZING fresh and delicious! Drink are yummy and not expensive. We had the entire beach to ourselves for the first 3 hours while we was there. Highly recommended others to visit/stay as well. Ig: miseanclaron
I really like Brisbane. The first time I stayed in Brisbane I stayed at following AirBnB:

If you are driving, It’s about 20 minutes away from the airport! I loved my stay there. The host was so nice and welcoming. I wish I could’ve stayed longer. She also has this amazing photo book of New Zealand that she made herself. It was honestly so good it convinced me to go to New Zealand.
If you are looking for a more budgeted option, I would also recommend the Breeze Lodge hostel.

I’ve stayed here twice, and I’ve enjoyed my stay both times. It’s a friendly hostel atmosphere, and everyone was really respectful. It was also very quiet for a hostel, and they also have a small parking lot in the back if you are driving.
