I just wanted to recommend a black owned restaurant in Fort Lauderdale where the food is fresh, made from scratch and healthy. The name of the restaurant is Big Mike’s Healthy Eats. I have not been disappointed with anything I’ve had here. If you’re ever in South Florida looking for fresh and delicious food, I recommend stopping by.
We stayed at the Sheraton Hotel that was right off the interstate highway. Nothing special about it. We relaxed on the Lauderdale by the Sea Beach for a few hours. It was highly relaxing. We took a food tour that we booked through Viator. The best restaurant was a Mexican restaurant called El Camino. The food was excellent. Get the margarita and quesadillas. For an appetizer get the octopus, you won’t be disappointed. The locals were very nice. Also stop by Dewey’s and get some all you can eat catfish.
Broward county and Dade County aka South Florida is a great place to visit if you love heat and humidity. Please don’t consider Florida “the South”, it’s not included. It’s a separate place because of all the people who have traveled from other states to live here. I didn’t find people as friendly. However, it’s a fun vibe here. Influenced by Latin and Caribbean culture everywhere. Many places close by 9-10pm. Some food places are chains, but there’s plenty of restaurants that are represented by Caribbean, Cuban, and Latin cuisine.
Musically inclined!!! Home to both alligators and crocodiles if there’s pools of water, you may actually see them. Several species of birds and lizards roam free. Don’t be afraid.
Fort Lauderdale has some nice Beaches, but also some nice Caribbean restaurants like Albertes’s restaurant which is know for good Haitian Creole cuisine. Another good Caribbean inspired location is Cuba Libre which is located in Las Olas. Very warm welcoming spot with authentic Cuban cuisine.
My favorite things to do in Fort Lauderdale!
1. Fort Lauderdale Beach. Relax on the beautiful sandy beaches, jet ski, yachting. Coconuts has a daily yacht show and delicious oysters.
2. Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. Is a charming beach town with a relaxed atmosphere, great for swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying seaside dining. Definitely have to eat at Aruba’s on the beach and Kilwin’s for ice cream!
3. Las Olas Boulevard. Wander along this vibrant street lined with shops, galleries, restaurants, and cafes, perfect for shopping and people-watching.
4. Everglades Holiday Park. Experience the unique ecosystem of the Everglades through airboat tours, wildlife encounters, and educational exhibits.
5. Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District. A cultural hub with theaters, museums, galleries, and events, offering a diverse range of entertainment options. Boathouse has a daily yacht show and delectable fresh seafood.
6. Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi. Take a scenic tour of the city’s waterways, hopping on and off to explore different attractions along the route. Shooters is a must for brunch!
7. Jungle Queen Riverboat Cruise. Enjoy a sightseeing cruise along the New River, complete with narration, entertainment, and a chance to see luxurious waterfront homes.
These are just a few highlights, and there’s plenty more to explore in Fort Lauderdale!
