My husband and I have visited Puerto Rico twice. The first time was back in December 2021. We stayed on the Rio Grande side. I don’t remember the name of the hotel but I believe it was a Hyatt chain and it was in the Rio Grande area. That hotel was very nice on the inside and out. They even offered vegetarian breakfast options that the chef made just for my sister in law who went with us. Customer service 10/10.

Activities: We toured the El Yunqué rainforest on our own. No tour guide. We drove through it. I’m sure there’s a lot we didn’t see, but the views were breathtaking. Some of our group did ATVs, while we stopped at a nearby restaurant and ate the food you see in the picture. My husband was able to pick his own lobster. Everything was fresh. We also did a catamaran cruise which I booked through either Viator or Airbnb Experiences. You do not have to stay at an Airbnb to book one of the experiences. I always look at the reviews and then book directly with the company anyway. We went to Barrachinas (the original Piña Colada place) which is located in Old San Juan.

We rented a car both times. The first time we rented from Enterprise at the airport. The second time we went which was in August 2024, we rented through one of their local companies. Highly recommend renting with companies you know. The wait was horrible and the cars were falling apart.

The 2nd time we went was right after hurricane season so there were plenty of cities without power. The island was still functioning but it was a bit scary to drive at nighttime in some areas. We did go parasailing, and to the clubs at either La Perla or La Placita, I’m not sure. It was cool. We aren’t clubbers like that but we wanted to check it out. The clubs were free and we just walked up and down the street going to different ones. Each club played different music. A couple clubs played popular rap songs. Some played reggae/ Caribbean music. So it was different vibes. It was cool. We also went back to Barrachinas for the piña colada again. We went to a different beach. I think Condado Beach or Culebra which is where we parasailed. Overall, each time was great. We can’t wait to bring our kiddos on our next visit!

I visited El Yunque rainforest in Puerto Rico. So many amazing waterfalls and natural water pools. Wear clothing you can mess up. Wear water shoes or crocs as the area is rocky and slippery. No cell service but absolutely breathtaking

Great birthday destination with family and friends. The national forest was great and some of the best food I’ve tasted. The highway system was easy to navigate. Don’t rule out visiting some of the small towns away from San Juan.

Puerto Rico was a beautiful experience. I went for my birthday and enjoyed the sightseeing, food tastings and the authentic pina coladas! It was an inexpensive trip but sooo worth it! The only downside is that the natives spoke very little English and I had to take a taxi everywhere! Other than that, it was a beautiful experience.
