Kansas City was never on my bucket list but I certainly had a time! We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott downtown and while it did seem like big city living, it still felt hometown. The reason for the trip was to visit the National Negro Leagues Museum. 10 of 10 experience. Who knew learning history on vacation would be that entertaining. The College Basketball Experience is a must see! There are so many interactive games in there you could stay all day. Burnt ends at Arthur Bryant’s BBQ were fantastic and so was the Red Chile Turtle Posole at Lula Southern Cookhouse. Nightlife was relaxed but super fun. We definitely felt comfortable walking around downtown as a Black family.

Kansas City wasn’t one of the places I had on my bucket list. But I was surprised by how developer and beautiful the city is. The chiefs are a big deal out there as expected and if
You stay downtown you will see a lot of
Billboards. I recommend visiting any bbq spots while there joes Kansas is a gas station and
Place to get ribs! Also If you’re up for the drive it’s about 45 minutes to KU home of the Jayhawks! There is definitely culture there and it felt safe as a black person

Kansas City is a wonderful, affordable place to visit! Check it out for the museums, BBQ, and Ruby Jean’s Juicery a black owned juice spot with a fantastic back story- I was only in town for 4 days and went out of my way to support the visit and enjoy their delectable food every day! From the avocado toast to the blackened salmon salad everything I enjoyed there was SUPERB. Can’t wait to return
