Hear me out… I spent 10 years there & left because I wasn’t raising my Black son in that environment. I’m from DC, did high school in Kingsport & college in Johnson City, moved back for a job, & quickly remembered why I left. East TN is the buckle of the Bible Belt — decades behind, & the racism there is real. Certain areas you just don’t go. Even other Black folks treated me like an outsider for being “city.” I have actual PTSD from it. I’d rate it a 2 for us. Seen Get Out? 🎯🎯🎯
