Kinshasa and the DRC is not for everyone, but it has its beauty throughout. The division between rich and poor is large here, with the Socimat area by the Congo River being very affluent. Things are crazy expensive in many places and mostly put in USD. However, blocks down, it’s a different story. There is a variety of food to try, but I wouldn’t say anything stood out unfortunately. But it was nice to try so many things. The only thing that stood out as absolutely horrendous was the traffic. My GOD it was the worst traffic I’ve ever witnessed. We had a driver and were hit at least 25 times a day by other cars and bikes. Kinshasa airport can also be very difficult to navigate. As a Jamaican American, I definitely stood out to people because I got a lot of stares, so would not say it made me the most comfortable especially the stares from men.
