Went to Ghana and Nigeria on a school trip with white and non-black POCs and me and my 2 other black friends on the trip were not served consistently throughout the trip in both countries even though we were part of the group. I wasn’t served 4 meals during that trip and ignored by staff as they served everyone sitting next to us. It felt like Jim Crow in 2025 Africa by Ghanian and African people.

Traveling While Black
I went to Accra for the year of the return and took a quick day trip to Kumasi. Visiting for a day was too short of a trip but we covered a lot of ground. If visiting Kumasi, I would recommend flying vs. driving. The flight was about 45 minutes to an hour. Kumasi is known as the capital of the Ashanti Kingdom. While there, we got to go to the largest market in west Africa, Kejetia Market. We also spent the evening touring the Kings’ Palace, Manhyia Palace, which is now a museum with a beautiful courtyard.
