So Egypt was on my bucket list for years, happy that i made it in 2023!
Luxor was the second city we visited after Cairo. I recommend to take at least 3 days in Luxor in order to visit the Luxor and Karnak temples plus the Valley of King’s.
A must see but with an experimented tour guide.
Don’t forget to enjoy a cruise on the Nil. There are many souks around the city center where you can have dinner or just a nice coffee and connect with local people.
Located on an Island surrounded by the Nile river, *Jolie ville is a great 5* hôtel with a beautiful view on the Nile. They have excellent food and services, plus the room are very clean, modern and spacious.
The Local Agency **Triad Travel offers a complete list of visits with very nice guides.
Do not hesitate to negociate the prices (ALWAYS !!!)
I must admit that travel while black was strange at times cause even if Egypt is in Africa, you don’t see any black people.
The guides never mention them in the stories either…But overall people where nice to us. Black egyptian (nubians) are more in the south in areas like Assouan.
*Jolie Ville Resort & SPA kings Island Luxor on trip advisor

We planned a trip to Cairo and at the last minute decided to take a day trip to Luxor. Best decision we ever made! I highly recommend this Luxor…will be the highlight of your trip to Egypt! Visiting Luxor is a one in a lifetime opportunity and you will not believe the vast ancient structures that are still there. Recommend hiring a tour guide who will help you navigate the city while providing you the historical points of the sites. We used a company called Excursion Cairo Tour Company which provided tour guides and transportation for all legs of our trip. This tour company will take care of all your needs and was such a pleasure to work with. Tour guides with transportation is also very reasonable. The day tour from Cairo to Luxor was about $350usd, which included plane ticket, full day tour, private tour guide and vehicle with driver. Our tour guide Hossam Nagy was extremely knowledgeable about Egyptian history, professional and will go above and beyond to ensure you have a one in a kind experience! Don’t make the mistake of visiting Egypt and missing Luxor…it’s definitely a must!
Book a private tour to see all of the tombs/sights so that you can enjoy everything at your own pace. We booked ours through viator and it was called “ 7-8 hour Tour: Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, Colossi of Memnon, Karnak & Luxor Temple ($100 USD For 2 people) “ our tour guide was amazing and really informative. We had planned for the hot air balloon ride over the open museum but the Egyptian government had shit it down last year temporarily due to an incident, but I sure want to do it next time I go. Luxor doesn’t have much of a night scene but it is filled with sooo much history. I stayed at the Hilton for 1 night (&100 USD) since were there for a 3am hot air balloon ride that was supposed to happen. Their hospitality is unmatched and they allowed us to checkout at 5pm free of charge. Can’t wait to go back!
When we think of Egypt, the first thing that comes to our minds is Cairo and the great pyramids. But there’s only so much you can do in Cairo. With a 1 hour plane ride or and boat ride down to Nile River, Luxor Egypt is a must visit. It is a city so rich in history and located at the center of Luxor is the Valley of the Kings where most the great Egyptian royalties were laid to rest. With a small fee you can actually go inside these tomb and see the beautiful Thousands of years colors and carvings that look like they were constructed just yesterday. The absolutely best thing to do in Luxor is a hot air ballon ride over the city and the valley of the Kings. The view will take you breath away. Make sure to find a balloon pilot with a perfect ratings as some accidents have happened.
I used Nasco tours for the hot air ballon ride. They have excellent certified pilots and their rides last longer. Again this is very important that you find a company with a perfect rating!
Contact Mina Salah: +20952281422 or mina@nascotours.com. It’s cost me $70
Luxor!!! So I hopped a flight on NileAir from Cairo to Luxor for a one day excursion. I hired a driver once I got off the flight $60 (10am-10pm). I even gave him a $40 tip. Bring sunblock. I just wore my Pakastani dress with male muslim headwear. @elcidjarhead for Egypt story
Things to do: 1. Karnak temple. An absolute must. Both day and return back at night for the show. 2. Valley of the Kings. Another absolute must. Bring your walking shoes. 3. Medinat Habu. A nice and quick stop and pop. Not many tourist. 4. Luxor Temple. 5. Luxor museum. Make sure you walk across the street to view the nile. 6. There were a few other places my driver pointed out to me that were very interesting.
Traveling while Black: Welcome home! A non-issue.
On my trip to Egypt we (my sister and I) visited Luxor first. Flight from New York on EgyptAir , layover in cairo then on to Luxor for 4 nights. I was on a strict time schedule and had to fly out on particular nights so I wont share my price because I’m sure you can get a better deal. Check the temperature before you visit people, I come from a tropical climate and still, phew. Let’s talk affordability though, we stayed at a breakfast inclusive hotel for roughly 60 USD a night so $30 pp (Winter Pavillon Luxor). Entrance fees for The Valley of Kings, Karnak Temple and Luxor temple were around $10 each. Compared to other places I’ve visited, Egypt is definitely on the cheaper end. My one big ticket item was a hot air balloon ride, it was $100 US which in comparison to everything else feels like an inflated tourist price but so it goes sometimes.
oh and dinner at the hotel however was $30 all you can eat bbq so I suggest eating out.
Other than that just to note, I did have one random/weird experience with an older woman basically hugging me before I could even register what was happening. Her grandson thankfully spoke english and was able to interject and apologize while explaining she had wanted a picture.
Luxor is by far one of the most beautiful and historically kept cities I’ve ever visited. Its also by far the HOTTEST destination you can visit especially in the summer time. I kid you not, the heat index ranges between OMG and WTF all day, even at night. So with that being said please be prepared to dress cool keeping into consideration the respect factor for Egypt’s culture and religion. Here are some things you can do while in Luxor:
VALLEY OF THE KINGS — PHARAOH TOMBS
HATSHEPSUT TEMPLE — FEMALE PHARAOH OF EGYPT MANSION {DOPE STORY BEHIND HER}
TEMPLE OF KARNAK
TEMPLE OF LUXOR
HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE — 3AM SUNRISE TOUR
NILE RIVER SUNSET DINNER CRUISE
We went on a day trip from Cairo to Luxor. We flew from Cairo to Luxor (around 2 hours) and met our guide. We went to a hotel to freshen up before we started our tour. We went all over Luxor; temples, valley of the kings, etc. Our tour was on the pricier side. Go on trip advisor. So much more affordable. Same trip with flight was around 50% cheaper. Our guide spoke English well and it included lunch and our flight back home that evening. They were very knowledgeable about all of our stops and was very patient with us taking lots of pictures and asking a ton of questions. Get there very early for the hot air ballon ride which our tour did not include.
I went on a 16 hour tour to Luxor which i don’t regret. It was not as busy as i expected it to be and the locals were very friendly. Make sure you visit the valley of kings, queen Hatshepsut and the temple of Karnak. There’s so much interesting history to learn about all these places.
I didn’t experience any problems being black and traveling in Luxor.
The history in the entire country is unmatched. But the artistry displayed in Luxor is like no other. My tour was fairly short lived in Luxor but completely remarkable and Life-changing.
