A brilliant time spent deep sea diving, sunning it up at Turtle beach, getting muddy at the Dalyan Mud Bath and viewing the sights such as the Lycian tombs while on a boat trip. The people were lovely, the food was absolutely delicious and the Turkish Bath and massage were the perfect thing to unwind after all of the activities. Turkey is a must to go back to!

The Turkish community is so warm! Out of all the places I’ve been to, the Turkish hospitality scores a 10/10. Marmaris is a harbor city in Turkey. It has been told that Marmaris has the biggest yacht harbor in that part of the world. You would expect everything to be super expensive there, but it’s not! I went in June 2018, in the middle of the summer. Temperature was very hot! So, taking a dip at the beach is recommended. Remember to always have enough water with you. Buying water at the stores isn’t expensive: you could get a big bottle of water (5liters) for less than 1 euro.

We arrived at the airport of Bodrum. Note that this airport is about 1,5 hours away from Marmaris. Airport handling went fast, because we only had carry-on baggage’s. Book a trip to Marmaris if you’d like to relax and have an ultimate beach vacation. Marmaris to Istanbul is to far away, so we didn’t do a trip to Istanbul.

Things to do: Eat a lot of baklawa. This is a sweet pastry filled with pistachio and honey. Visit the open-air museum of Marmaris (about 8 TL) to learn more of the history of Marmaris. Book an boat trip experience to the Cleopatra island (Sedir Island) from Marmaris. Legend says that a Pharaoh brought sand all the way from Egypt to Sedir Island specially to impress Cleopatra. Do you like beer? Try an ice cold ‘Efes’ beer.

Travelling while black: Travelling as two black guys, the Turkish community received us with open arms. A person with melanin is appreciated and admired by the Turkish culture, as said by one of the hotel employees.

All by all: Hospitality, warmth and rich history.
