Going to a Mayan village in Pixya, Yucatan (about an hr away) will give you a reality check and to be greatful for the things you do have. While living in Merida, my daughter and I would donate and volunteer time to visit one perticular family. A few years ago they lost everything due to flooding. The family also helps other families in the village with the donations they receive. Here at their own you can learn about traditional Mayan culture, watch them prepare your meal ( farm to table), swim in a local cenotes and even interact with some of the village kids. I highly reccomend visiting a viallage and giving back. You can book with Lucy via Bonita Merida Tours.
