I live in this very white area, which is largely unreviewed; so before I go mark the “stay aways”, I had to give props to The Buttery and their team.
From the time they opened two years ago they have done racial equity trainings for staff and made sure their restaurant is safe for all, especially Black people. One of the owners is very well-traveled and has spent a fair been of time in larger Black cities, so she witnesses the disparities and makes sure they don’t happen here.
This is in addition to the fact that the music consists of Chance the Rapper, Anita Baker (on tape), and Sade!
I love their food. They always have something fresh and locally sourced. Pictured, I have a garlic butter scallop pasta.
The best part: they’re actually coffee and wine bar! They have a HUGE selection of coffee and wine. We love The Buttery and it is one of only three places that I would deem racially safe in this town.
