At first glance, Valparaiso is a gritty port city. Once you take the time to explore, you’ll understand why this city is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is full of architectural treasures, hidden alleyways, and colorful buildings. Street art and graffiti are allowed and celebrated, giving the city a vibrant and eclectic atmosphere. Beyond the Instagram friendly angles of the city, Valparaiso has layers of history. It is the cultural capital of Chile and has a free spirit. Attractions include the home of renowned Nobel Prize winning Chilean Poet Pablo Neruda. Since the city is built on hills like San Francisco, the city has a bunch of funiculars that have operated since the 1900s. They are fun to ride. I visited this city for a day and went on a walking tour with a local guide. I’d strongly suggest visiting the city with a local because they will help you to appreciate this gem of a city.
Valparaíso is one of my favorite city in Chile.
You will be charmed by the urban art of this city. (A lot of original graffitis and paints on walls)
It is super family, friendly and perfect for young people and couples.
As a port city, you will find great restaurants and hostel with amazing views on the pacific ocean.
If you go to Chile you have to visit this city.
