This past July, I set out with a few close friends to complete a section of the Pacific Crest Trail. I have health issues that have made adventures even more meaningful, this one being no exception.
We left around 1pm on a Thursday afternoon and drove 5 hours from Olympia WA to Winthrop WA. We booked a hotel the night before (The Winthrop Inn) and were able to check in right away and set our things down. The rooms were nothing fancy and it was obvious they weren’t frequented much by the dust covering the furniture. Other than that, the room was clean and very basic. We went to a local brewery for dinner but it was nothing memorable. Friday morning, we checked out and drove and hour up to Harts Pass, on the highest drive able road in Washington. We parked and hiked a beautiful 6 miles to Windy Pass where we stayed the night. It was a beautiful area and we met a lot of amazing people along the way. I felt safe at all times! We hiked back on Sat and spent the evening in Wenatchee WA. There was a different feel here and I did not feel as safe. If I hadn’t been with my Caucasian friends, I would have stayed in my room. Lol We ate at a wonderful Italian Restaurant where I had a delicious Martini before we went back to a wonderful hotel with friendly staff and beautiful rooms. Overall, a 10/10 experience!
