Amarillo is a very wide open space kind of town. I only got one hard stare the (which happened at the hotel breakfast) but everyone else was pretty cordial in their interactions. If you go, just be aware there are still “Tr*%p 2024 signs here and there. I stayed at the Best Western Plus Medical Center hotel, the lady at the front desk was friendly. There was a framed photo of cotton in a field (which I believe they may grow out there). You know, it’s the subtle details of this place lol. If you’re a hiker, there is Palo Duro, which will be a bit of a drive (35-50min) but may prove to be worth it. I didn’t get the chance to go but something to think about.

This is small town U.S.A. so I don’t expect to see much of us here in Llano, Tx. Actually outside of my work colleague, I didn’t see us at all. They have a really good Italian restaurant on a strip (forgot the name sorry) near there courthouse building. Also, I went to a smoothie/coffee shop and the barista was like, “ Y’all ain’t from around here, are you?” lol straight out of a movie scene. They helped us— my matcha was okay, but they kept it quaint. I don’t know if I’ll have the heart to go back during their nightlife.

-you will be stared at. The percentage of black people in this town is less than 2% -may have limiting vegan/vegetarian options. -you will sense or notice a change in behavior if you may need to interact with people such as TSA, servers, etc. Be mindful, respectful and protective over your mental.
