    Traveling While Black
    Edit

Cartagena was wonderful! I had never been to South America and it was a very friendly toward Black people. I traveled with my eight-year-old daughter. Most of the people in Cartagena speak Spanish only so definitely take some sort of translating resources if you are not comfortable communicating. The media makes Columbia seem like a place you will immediately be captured up upon landing, but I found the friendliness of the people there quite refreshing. I also learned Columbia was a major drop off spot along the transatlantic slave trade. There is a culture of people their called, Palenque. They live a beautiful culture which blends traditional African practices with Latino traditions. I will for sure visit Columbia again. Oh and SUPER affordable!

Absolutely love, Belize! There are so many Black people there, it’s refreshing. We stayed at the Margaritaville resort, which I will probably not stay out again. It’s too far from San Pedro and too much of a hassle to get there. Although the beaches are absolutely breathtaking. It definitely was not luxury, but it certainly was not Janky either. Every restaurant we ate at was delicious. The people there are very friendly and welcoming. So much so, I’m considering buying a property in Belize. I definitely plan to return again.
