    Traveling While Black
    Edit

Recently visited the Amalfi Coast. My hotel was in Maiori & I visited Positano while I was there. For the most part, the people there seemed nice. I can tell who was genuinely nice & who was pretending. Me & my friend were stared at heavy every day we were there. The stares came from both women and men. Most of the time, I got the vibe that a lot of the men hadn’t seen a chocolate, voluptuous woman up close before. Other times, it seemed negative. Maybe they thought we were aliens? Who knows. It didn’t let it bother me. As long as none of them said anything out of line, I didn’t care. I felt safe as well. We were out at night during dinner time & didn’t feel any danger. I saw black employees there but they were in service roles.

Stayed at Cas Comte Suites & Spa https://www.cascomte.com/. It’s a boutique hotel in Lloseta, Mallorca. It’s about 30min from PMI Airport. The taxi was about $52. The taxis accept euros & cards. The train station is a 5min walk from the hotel. It takes you to Palma, Mallorca for 3.60€ one way. You can pay for the train with card or cash at the kiosk. You can also pay online at https://www.tib.org/en/inici & you will get a QR code. As a black woman I felt safe during my stay. The hotel staff were nice & made me feel welcome. They answered my questions & always greeted me daily. I felt safe walking around at night either to/from restaurants or from the train station. I saw a few black people in Palma, where most of the people seem to be. I got a few stares throughout my trip but that was expected. Maybe because they never saw a beautiful black woman up close.

The Alburi Botanical Gardens was beautiful. It was colorful & massive. Elmina Castle which was on the coast of Elmina, Ghana. I visited the Black Star Square, also known as Independence Square, and learned interesting history about Ghana and its independence. The W.E.B Dubois was informative & I learned about Panafrikanism. I also visited the Botsi Waterfalls. There were tourists as well as locals there. The locals were welcoming & having a good time splashing around in the water with us. https://touringghana.com/boti-falls/ https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/black-star-square http://www.everycastle.com/Elmina-Castle.html https://www.wondersofwanders.com/visiting-aburi-botanical-gardens/ http://webduboiscentreaccra.ghana-net.com/index.html

I went to Reykjavik, Iceland for my birthday at the end of July 2022. I stayed right by downtown Reykjavik at Fosshotel Reykjavik https://www.islandshotel.is/hotels-in-iceland/fosshotel-reykjavik/ The price was $900 for 4 nights for 2 twin beds. The bathroom was updated with a sliding door & had plenty of space. The room was small but it’s enough for one person. The channels weren’t great, so have your own entertainment. The hotel has a restaurant called Haust that serves food all day. It also has an area to purchase snacks & use a computer with internet. There’s also a beer garden that has happy hour daily. The hotel is in a safe, quiet area. We walked from the bar after 2am & felt completely safe. I recommend staying at Fosshotel Reykjavik because it’s close to restaurants, bars & various stores. There’s a bus that runs all over the city. It is also a 20min walk from the Embassy. The hotel is a 5min walk from a beautiful body of water with a trail that next to it. It’s a nice place to jog, ride bikes & take pics. We felt completely comfortable traveling as black women. The people were friendly & welcoming. There were many Americans there as well. We met so many nice people.
