    Traveling While Black

While in Costa Rica I stayed in Jaco. While there I was able to take part in a few fun activities such as ATV riding and going on a monkey tour. There isn't much night life as it's a small town, but the beaches are really nice and lowkey. Besides the group I was with I didn't see many black people, but also didn't experience much discrimination besides a time when police confused us with Nicaraguan refugees. It definitely helps to be fluent in Spanish here as well.

I visited Rio sitting carnival and it was amazing. I stayed in the Copacabana area, which I would recommend to everyone. There are quite a bit of people of color in Brazil so it is possible to blend in with the locals as a black person. Make sure to take the train to see Christ the Redeemer. I also went on a sunset sail boat which was a lot of fun. This was provided by DDRio and cost about $60 per person. Would 100% recommend.

Atlanta is a great city. I got here by plane as Atlanta's airport has many flight options. I stayed at the W hotel downtown which is very nice. Coming from California, things were not too expensive to me. Atlanta is a majority black city so traveling the while black is amazing. Make sure to visit the aquarium and coca cola museum!
