Cape Town has been one of my fave trips. It is so full of life, beautiful and eye opening. One thing you MUST do, is go to the Cape of Good Hope. There is no feeling like standing at the most southern part of Africa. 1. You can lay on the beautiful soft sandy beach - but know the water is FREEZING, you’ll definitely feel the chill quickly 2. Climb the rocky highlands and over look where the ocean touch’s the sky, and see an amazing eternity of blue. Another thing to see there are a mass of endangered penguins, the only penguins that have acclimated to the warm weather of South Africa - if you are lucky, they’ll let you get close.
My friend and I took a quick weekend trip to Prague, to have a get away from work. The city surprised me, I didn't know what i'd expect honestly but it is quirky, pretty with lots of history. We managed to cram a few things into a weekend trip; we watched the ballet swan lake, went to old town square, checked out cute cafe's, went to the John Lennon wall and saw the Prague castle. We enjoyed the city, even in the cold weather, as it was all very beautiful to see. However, we did notice there were little to none black people or Muslim women, even when we visited areas outside the tourist spot. Luckily we didn't face any blatant discrimination but as a Black Woman and my friend as a Muslim Woman wearing a hijab, but we both felt out of place. In addition, I had my picture reposted on the Instagram of a very cute cafe and noticed they had lightened my picture a little. It was nice to be honoured on the page, but I don't think the editing was to fit the theme. I think the city is pretty, and probably much better in the summer. Just be aware, the city isn't as exposed as others to non white people.
Marrakech has a well deserved place in my travel diary heart. It is so full of vibrant patterns and colours, with so much to discover. We went for 5 days, which was only enough to touch the surface of what the city had to offer. We took a hot air balloon in front of the Atlas Mountains, with Berber breakfast after the flight and then enjoyed a camel ride in the Palmeraie, (with Marrakech by air for 2000 DH per person), we relaxed at Nikki Beach Club, we visited the Jardin Majorelle, Berber Museum and the YSL Museum, we entered the Palais de la bahia and El Badi Palace (about 30 DH per person) and we haggled in the Jemaa el-Fnaa, we witnessed belly dancing, bands play and women dancing with candles on their heads while eating a beautiful dinner in the Comptoir Darna and we enjoyed a relaxing massage and hammam. With all those activities, we had a mix of adventure, relaxation and romance. My top 3 recommendations from the list of things we did, would have to be: 1. Visit the Jardin Majorelle, Berber Museum and the YSL Museum, it is a beautiful representation of the colour and history in Morocco and a chance to learn about YSL (200 DH per person) 2. Take the day out at Nikki Beach to cool down from the hot weather and enjoy good music (Wednesday is the lovers day - so your entry includes a 3 course meal and beautifully chill vibe) (550 DH per Person) 3. Explore the restaurants tucked away above the Jemaa el-Fnaa Also the hot air ballon was so beautiful, peaceful and unforgettable! And Moroccan Mint Tea became a favorite, even in 90F weather. Through all the things we did, we felt welcomed and were showered with amazing hospitality at Riad Malika, with large breakfast spreads every morning and free massages. Also to note: Dirham (DH) is a close currency, which means you can only buy it in Morocco. If you are able to get some in the airport before hand you can bring around a max of 2000 DH per person. Morocco also accepts Euro (€), some places prefer it. Note 2: the air balloon company will pick you up EARLY morning from your Riad or hotel
