I recently visited burano. It’s a bright and colourful small island. This small island could easily be the most colourful town in the world. I could totally see myself living here (without the tourists ofcourse lol). Every house has a different colour from the one next to it. Apparently the owners are not allowed to change the house colour without approval from the government. They are given a list of colours they can use to paint the house. The island is clean and just has a positive vibe to it. Remember to be respectful and keep the noise down when you visit because there people who live here.
Getting to Burano was such a hustle. I had visited another island, Murano and tried to get a boat to Burano. There are no direct boats from Murano to Burano so instead either go back to Venice or catch a boat to Faro station and then catch line 12 to Burano. There is. I ticketing station in Murano so ask the conductor when a boat arrives at the port. It took me almost an hour trying to figure out how to get to Burano. Once I got to Faro station the line was so long and it was blazing hot outside. Tip: visit earlier in the morning before the crowds because it does get really crowded
Return boat ride was €15
I visited Burano in September 2018 when I stopped off in Venice. If you’re in Venice for some time, get an unlimited pass for the water taxi and then you can travel around easily. Our hotel gave us a ride to Murano and then we took the water taxi to Burano but both are incredibly easy to access and the boat ride takes approximately 20 min. The island is super small and bright color houses are everywhere. You can walk the entire island lol.
I would recommend the visit to see how lace and glass is made. The craftsman ship is stunning and the prices are steep. Candidly, there isn’t much else to do outside of walk around and see different shops, the town and grab a bite to eat but its a part of history and the islands deserve a visit nonetheless. Make a day of it, grab some lunch and dinner and then head back to Venice for some nice gold!
