Such a profoundly historical place. As a descendant of slaves, it was humbling that I visited this “last stop” before slaves were placed on ships to the New World. We learned how slaves were brought in and segregated, kept in the dark, and then shackled before put on a ship. There was a lot of silence as we visualized the horrors people went through. Highly recommend touring the Castle.

While in Cape Coast, Ghana, make sure to visit the site of the Last Bath, located in Assin Manso. The Last Bath is a historic site of remembering, where our ancestors were permitted to bathe one last time, after having been forced to trek over 300 miles, and before being forced to continue a 30 mile journey to the dungeons located on the coast. It is spiritually transformative and a must see before visiting the dungeons of Elmina or Cape Coast. Make sure to ask for Kwame as your guide. You won’t regret it.
