I stayed in downtown Eugene, right around the corner from this NYT-recommended Jamaican bar and restaurant in a house. I walked in Friday night without a reservation, 30 minutes before closing, and they opened the upstairs for me. I had an herbaceous cocktail and spicy pan-fried chicken sandwich on smashed plantain – flavorful, GF and cheap. Rum cake disappointing. Very friendly service; I felt welcomed and safe as a Black woman alone. Downstairs looked lively and intimate. Friends in the industry say the owner is great
