Grand Haven has a very small population of people of color but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have something to offer everyone. Saturday mornings in the summer boasts a quaint farmers market where some of the best peaches you’ll find in Michigan are sold.

Head to brunch afterwards at The Village Baker which has a breakfast pizza that is now served ALL DAY because it’s that much in demand. Almost anything on the menu won’t disappoint. And some will even amaze!

The afternoon lull is a good time to get on the water. If you don’t have a boat to hit the lake, you can rent kayak nearby or take a stroll along the harbor. If you do take a stroll, be sure to stop by Pronto Pups and grab their unique corn dogs. If you hate corn dogs, try one anyway! Many haters say these are the only corn dogs they’ll eat.

If the heat is trying to sweat out your sew-in you can cool off by stopping by Halaula. Try a blue coconut, dragon’s blood and green apple shaved ice WITH coconut ice cream. Beware, even the smallest size is huge so you might want to share!

If you’re still there late at night, on the right night you can pull up a chair or picnic blanket on the harbor and enjoy the musical fountain before heading in for the night.

This is a vibrant little city, with some surprisingly friendly businesses. You can find craft beer, Kilwins ice cream, and a night club or two downtown. There is almost always something to do in this little town.
