    Kampot… Calm and Quirky.

So with mixed reviews about mainland Cambodia, I did stop off for a couple of hours in Kampot on my way to Sihanoukville. After having a drink on a quirky boat on the river I knew I had to come back for longer and I did.

Excluding the islands off Cambodia i.e. Koh Rong, Koh Tah Kiev and so on, Kampot is the place to be and my favourite place on the mainland of Cambodia.

I stayed at Good Morning Kampot for $8 a night which was a reasonable double room, clean and did the job if you’re on a budget I would recommend. Kampot centre has an area of quirky shops and restaurants you can go to. With a large variety of places to eat you can eat at local food bars, burger diners or even an Indian, I would recommend Taj Mahal they make a fab curry! There are also quite a few vegetarian restaurants that were nice to check out too.

Something I loved about Kampot was the bars on the river and the bars didn’t stop there. There are many places to have a drink in Kampot with a nice atmosphere and the place is a lot different from the likes of Sihanoukville which I may leave for a different review ;)

For anyone visiting Kampot, Bokor Mountain is a must a beautiful bike or scooter ride up into the mountains is stunning. I would advise to set off early on your journey, you will see temples, monkeys, and waterfalls. TAKE WARM CLOTHING as you will realise you are more or less in the clouds. The beautiful thing about Bokor and Kampot is how friendly everyone is for example at the top of the mountain we were greeted by some locals having a picnic who invited us to drink and eat with them. They were very friendly and they deffo enjoyed meeting a black person as I felt it could have been the first time for a few of them.

All in all, if you’re visiting Cambodia Kampot is a must great food, great views and great people.
