My daughter goes to college in this town so I visit often. It’s a small town with a college. I’ve seen a few black folks but I’d say less than 10 off campus and I’ve been there at least 6 times now. I’ve stayed in hotels from the shilo inn to the best western and I also stay in the Running Y resort. The resort is the best priced for the ambience. The town is mostly white and Mexican. I’ve have not encountered any bad vibes from folks even ones I’d think were. The Mexicans seem cool and stick to themselves the white folks are actually pretty nice. I am black but mixed and have a mixed family which can go either way with white folks. I travel from Salem Oregon and it’s a 4 hour drive through basically wilderness with about 3-4 small towns to stop at on the way. I’ve been to all of them the last one being oak ridge before Klamath and it has one gas station at the end of town. A younger white man and his daughter own the gas station restaurant. They treat me and my family like anyone else and are very friendly. I think If I had any issues it would be on an individual basis. Peckerwoods travel and vacation too. On this particular route over the last two years I and my daughter have neither had any issues. We do travel armed no matter what though this is a 1.8 percent black state but the majority of folks here are with us so I don’t worry about it much but I ain’t stupid either. It does and has happened just not here. Safe travels yall Klamath falls and crater lake are greenlight for us but if you are legal, stay strapped is my advice. Trust me -they are.
