Klausen, Germany is about an hour drive outside of Frankfurt. It’s the countryside part of Germany, full of rolling hills with hunting stands and two lane roads. I stayed in Klausen only because a friend of mine lived there. It was very relaxing, and so rural that I only ever saw one bus drive through town in the entire two weeks i was there.
Being in Klausen gave me more of an urge to travel outside of Germany, because it’s westward location is so close to the boarder of Luxembourg and France. While traveling, you have to make your way to the Wittlich train station in order to go anywhere else. It’s pretty important that you have a car (I didn’t, but my friend living there did) in order to get around. Klausen is also 30 minutes from the U.S. Airforce base.
If you happen to stay in Klausen and want to do a little exploring, pop over to the other side of the mountain adjacent to the town of Klausen. On the other side nestled away is a tiny town called Piesport. It’s a quaint little town with antique looking shops and a beautiful bridge over the Mosela River. There’s not enough to do in Piesport to leave it it’s own review, however if you need to kill a couple hours while in Klausen and you’re feeling adventurous, make your way through the winery fields and go enjoy Piesport’s scenery.
