Lafayette feels like you don’t belong there. It’s quiet racism. I mean if you mind your business you won’t be bothered. Just stared at. I went to a laundromat to wash a few things and the only person spoke to me was a hispanic and then I stayed at a hotel there and even the foreign manager didn’t want to look at me while giving me a room key. I left the very next day headed to chicago.

Traveling While Black
If you’re going through Indiana, this is a safe spot to park for the night. Multicultural and comfortable.
When I was coming from Chicago, my maps rerouted me unto the back roads to avoid most construction and tolls. It also put me at risk with me and my babies.
I had a gas station clerk tell me ” You must not be from around here, I would get what I need quickly” paraphrasing. So I hopped back in my car and drove (and prayed) until I found a town remotely safe enough to stop. I drove past Whitesville and then Brownsville. I saw Lafayette and my spirit told me to pull in. Glad I did because me and my children slept well and everything I needed was all in the same area!

Traveling While Black
It was a nice amount of POC.
The lines are somewhat long so manage your time wisely especially at night.
In general you’ll likely see people, friendly but stay cautious.
