I know a lot of people like Panamá because it feels like another US city, but I don’t think the locals want as much tourism as they’re starting to receive. If you go, having some Spanish will help and try not to stand out as much.
I recommend El Caribe for Caribbean food, La Trapiche for traditional food, and Kanibal for a special occasion. At these places, the customer service was wonderful.
If seeing the ladies of the night is something that will bother you, I don’t think you’ll like Casco Viejo after dark. However, during the day, there are plenty restaurants, cafes, and activities to explore. I recommend taking a Salsa lesson, doing some coffee tastings, or visiting Element and letting them handcraft a cocktail for you.
I would not stay at the JW Marriott. It is a bit outdated and farther away from the city. Although I didn’t see the inside, the Hilton or Le Meridien are closer to all of the activities.
They have Uber in Panama and it is very cheap.
