Had an AirBnB for a month about a 1/2mi from the Leicester city center, while my black wife and I tried to decide if this was a good place to live permanently. As 2 mixed females, it is IMPOSSIBLE to blend in to Leicester. The entire racial makeup is: 1) White British 2) Muslim African 3) Asian 4) Indian. There is hardly anything else. Since my wife and I are both mixed and not Muslim, we stood out like a sore thumb. Confused looks, stares, and immediate assumptions of being outsiders meant zero chance of blending in walking into a pub or restaurant. While we didn’t have any outward racist problems, folks are not at all welcoming or friendly. The predominant color to wear is black or grey and again, any vibrant colors identify you as an outsider and to be treated as such.
