Safe for for traveling while Black but of course has its quirks.
Watch out for pickpockets. Random acts of kindness could be a trap.. especially for women traveling solo.
Barra is a great place to stay and also visit (ex. Farol da Barra). Barra great beaches, historical landmarks, and is relatively safe. There are night markets on Friday evenings which consist of food, jewelry, produce, and other vendors!
