As far as traveling while black here i’d be a little careful. As a resident I’ve had family lose jobs and family members and get the general cold shoulder and disrespect from community for having a black spouse.
The food is subpar at best, there are a few ethnic Mom and pop restaurants that are good enough though.
It’s next to Myakka State Park, which is good for camping so that can be fun. You won’t see a lot of black and brown folk here and it’s more so a retirement town. One thing I can say is it is generally very quiet and peaceful. There are lots of opportunity to garden and plan out a laid-back life. Most residents go to the neighboring cities when they want things to do though.
