POC here! There’s a souvenir store at Peggy’s Cove where you can get your passport stamped. I was standing in line to pay for some souvenirs (there were 2 white people before me), and when the woman (with a bobcut) behind the register was serving the white lady in front of me, she said, “Okay, after I am done with this, I will be stamping passports before going back to the cash register, does that sound fair?” Mind you, we had been waiting in line for a good 10 minutes. Of course it wasn’t fair to me because we only had limited time for the stop. Most of the people behind me were white. I was like, “That’s fine, I’m getting my passport stamped too.” And being the petty person that I am, I made sure to move forward and have her stamp my passport FIRST, before falling back in line at the cash register. No ma’am, your subtle micro aggression did not go unnoticed.
Overall, the people of Halifax seemed pretty accommodating. Our tour guide and driver were very kind so they balanced that encounter out. However, just thought to share my experience.
