this is a [historic] sundown town. Jelani Day was allegedly murdered here and his body parts were scattered in the Illinois river and other nearby towns. It’s also very near a popular state park, Starved Rock. I happened upon Peru while leaving the park. I stopped at a nearby mall and was met with lots of stares and I believe I was being followed. I caution anyone who ventures to this town to be extremely careful and aware.
