Seville, Spain is a must see travelers destination. This destination is filled with ancient history, community, fun, art, and so much more. I picked this spot as my first solo-travel, international destination and I have already been back 3 times within the year. I loved staying there because it was just big enough for me to still feel grounded figuring out my way and just small enough to find a community there. The people are kind, talkative, and fun. Parties Wednesday- Sunday if that is what you’re looking for. There is also so many whatsapp groups and facebook groups for expats in Seville or people visiting. Be sure to check out a flamenco show while your there. I went to Flamenco Dance Museum which has a beautiful exhibit attached to the show. You can also get dance classes there if you want to learn the dance. Night life is great! Lots of great food options, fun bars with cool themes. Try and stay in a hostel, you can book an 11 day stay for 130 euro. Uber works great but learn how to use public transportation and WALK. Don’t be afraid to speak to random people and as a black women this was a new experience for me, meaning the level of safety. I realized that in America my nervous system is always activated for violence and being there let me realize what it feels like for my body to be regulated. This is my new favorite oasis.
hello,
i stayed 5 days in seville and it was a great experience. I stayed at the hotel (Catalonia Hispalis) really cheap on Booking. the hotel is well located.
it is a few kilometers from the airport and historic places of the city.
I took a rental car from an online site (CENTAURO) to be free to do what I want. for activities,
-the Santa Cruz district is ideal for discovering the beauty of the city and the typical Andalusian architecture.
– the plaza del triunfo is essential and it is the center of everything.
– The Plaza de Espana and the Maria Luiza Park.
-The real alcazar
-The Metropol parasol (day and night for sunsets with a panoramic view)
– the casa de pilatos
and a walk in the city center …
Seville is probably my favorite city in Spain. It’s beautifully compact streets are so close together that everything is a convenient 5 min walk. We lived in an Airbnb it was off of Calle Ave Maria we stayed three nights and it came to $241 for the entire stay including the service and cleaning fee. It was a 5 min walk to the bus stop, (where I took a trip to the white villages of Zahara – absolutely gorgeous) Here’s the link to the tour https://naturanda.com/en/ronda-and-white-villages-day-trip-from-seville/ it was only $85 and totally worth it. There wasn’t much time spent each of the villages but they were so beautiful. We also
saw a free flamenco performance at the restaurant La Carbonería, (it gets crowded so it’s important to show up early to guarantee a good seat) and then we just went sightseeing. Their paella was amazing and there are multiple restaurants that serve food from all over the world. They speak Spanish and English there and most menus are shown in both languages. Seville is nice because it offered much more variety than some of their counterparts. It’s a beautiful city at night or during the day. Many sights to see such as La Plaza de España and things to do.
LOVE Seville. I visited: Real Alcazar de Sevilla, Plaza de Espana, and Plaza Del Salvador. Alcazar was my personal favorite. The architecture is phenomenal! It features a Gothic and Renaissance type of style. The fun part? Used to be a royal palace. This place had a rich history and offered plenty of photo opportunities. I went with a group of classmates from my study abroad trip.
In addition to having amazing food, Seville is rich with history and it’s absolutely gorgeous! There are three things I highly recommend every traveler visiting Seville, Spain experience. I was blown away by the ornate details and grandeur of 1. Plaza de España. 2. The Seville Cathedral and 3. Real Alcázar. These 3 sites are within walking distance and travelers pressed for time can see them all in one day but suggest spreading them out to allow time to really enjoy their magnificence.
Sevilla is lovely and definitely a tourist hub! I’m going to add a few tips from what others have written. There is a lot to do and see here. It’s easy to walk, but I get lazy. Lol Download Cabify, it’s like Spanish version of Uber and super cheap. I first went to The Mushrooms (otherwise known as : Metropol Parasol or Las Setas De Sevilla) which was beautiful. The view of the city is incredible. Also I had a chance to check out the Real Alcazar (the gardens are everything), and Casa De Pilatos (this place charges Americans to enter lol They actually have a sign that says if you have an American passport, you have to pay. Europeans are free to enter). The later is very lovely, and worth seeing if you want to have an idea of old Spanish homes. Also, you absolutely absolutely absolutely, must go to Plaza De Espana. No Sevilla trip is complete without this visit. It is truly remarkable.
Sevilla has a unique history not found outside of southern Spain. You’ve got Ancient Roman, Jewish, Islamic, and Christian heritage all in one city. The heart of it all is found by the Cathedral. It’s the world’s largest Gothic cathedral and not to be missed. It’s worth going to the top of the bell tower. It may look daunting but there are no stairs to the top – its a series of ramps which makes the job a lot easier. You also can’t miss the Royal Alcazar where they filmed Game of Thrones. The lines can get pretty crazy so I’d recommend booking a tour to skip the lines. Getting lost in the old Jewish Quarter (el barrio de Santa Cruz) is also a must. The Plaza de Espana and the adjacent Maria Luisa Park are also incredible. Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes!
My trip to Seville was unexpected in every way. It is a small city and in 2 or 3 days you can do a lot.
I recommend you visit: Plaza de España, Seville Stadium, Triana Neighborhood, Seville Cathedral and Real Alcazar (I could not enter through the long lines, I recommend buying the ticket in advance). I consider it the city of light and gold. It is magnificent and I want to return.
My sister studied abroad here and I went to visit her for a few days while she was there. Before I came, she warned me about the racial relations there. And as soon as I left the airport, I felt it. There were A LOT of looks, people were obviously uncomfortable with black people in southern Spain. This is not the experience I felt in other places of Spain, but I was also much younger then and less aware of my surroundings. Despite this hostility, Sevilla is beautiful and the weather in December was amazing (warm).
Thailand Phuket was the most wonderful experience, I would encourage anyone to travel to Phuket for a beach holiday. There is so much to do and see. I went to Thailand in October 2017 for about 2 weeks, I stayed at a resort called Kata Sea Breeze which cost us about $40 a night , this fee also included breakfast daily and had some really great features such as their pool bars. The resort had about 5 pools in total.
While in Phuket, I did a lot of the Thailand bucket list items such as a sunrise trip to Phi Phi Islands. I chose the sunrise trip because it’s less crowded at the islands around that time and you get to take in all the beauty because hundreds of people arrive. The coat of that trip for two people was $70 and also included lunch and drinks. I also did the James Bond Islands which was a full day tour costing also in the region of $50-70 and also included foods, drinks, a canoeing experience where you get to go into the hidden caves of the island( this is one trip that everyone should try).
Anotheruat experience is the buzzing nightlife in Phuket, in Bangla road to be specific. Bangla Road is a Street whixh is full of clubs , you experience all types of music there, drinks are also really cheap especially if you go for the all you can drink specials which will cost you about $25.
I must say this is one place I would definitely go back to
I spent a week in Rota Spain traveling around and I had the most fun in Seville which is around an hr and a half away. I went to Seville for the night life and it was worth the drive. Seville is a chill place that I would recommend for everyone. I thought that the food was decent, nothing special, and the prices were tolerable.
Sevilla is one of the most under-rated cities in Spain. It’s truly a beautiful city and almost every corner of Sevilla is picturesque! It’s a 2.5 hour train ride from Madrid and it’s totally worth the trip. GoEuro is a great app to utilize while traveling around Europe, you can compare taxi, train and plane fares. TOC hostel was one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. They have the option for a private room with bathroom, it’s clean and quiet, there was an amazing restaurant downstairs with great food and the entire atmosphere reminded me more of a boutique hotel than a hostel. I’d definitely recommend staying there if you want a nice place to stay and the location is convenient because it’s walking distance from just about everything.
The best way to get a tour of the city is by horse and carriage, you’ll see them everywhere. Hop on one your first day, the driver will be your personal tour guide and they’ll take you around the city and stop to take pictures for about $40. Also, don’t pay for a walking tour. You can get a great FREE tour via http://www.freewalkingtoursevilla.com
El Pinton in Sevilla was by far the best restaurant I ate at in all of Spain. They had delicious food and even better cocktails!
Sevilla is also full of history from the world’s largest cathedral where Christopher Columbus was laid to rest to the origin of flamenco.
The “must see” places include: Plaza Nueva, Museo del baile flamenco, Sevilla cathedral, alcazar Sevilla, archivo de Indias, Las setas ans plaza de espana.
