Turks and Caicos was a solo trip. I traveled the week of Easter and it was crowded! Stayed at the Atrium Resort in a residential neighborhood. Walking distance to a local beach and about a 45 minute walk to town. I was not near any restaurants, so I had groceries delivered which is pretty expensive. If I went again, I’d stay at an all inclusive or closer to restaurants. For a rest and recharge solo trip, the resort was perfect, but I wish it was near food.
For a solo traveler the taxis charge more or you will ride with others and have to drive to multiple destinations. I recommend renting a car, but the price is steep. Or a bike?!
Fish Fry on Thursday is a vibe, live band, great food and some cute little markets.
The water is so clear, the people are kind and the food is very good!
Category: Beautiful Beaches for the Big Ballers!
Providenciales, Turks and Caicos has by far the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. We’ve all seen the glass boat photoshoot craze and the water is just as clear in person! Although COVID-19 has settled, Turks has a strict band, and you cannot enter the country unless you are vaccinated.
When I daydream, I imagine I’m still there Anywho! If being on the beach is your fave place to be, this island is FOR YOU.
Aside from traditional water sports, there isn’t much to do on the island besides dining. Which worked for ME. I love relaxing on vacation and trying new food places! The residents of Turks and Caicos make you feel like family. They were honestly the highlight of the island!
The only downside about Turks is the cost of everything. It should be rated a five star island.
This is not a destination that is cheap. Everything is expensive, from transportation to food, it’s for the spenders! Out of all of the places I’ve traveled to, this was by far the MOST expensive.
Favorite hotel: Rockhouse
Favorite restaurant: Almond Tree
Favorite bar: Aziza (you might meet Drake there!)
The Looking Glass Photoshoot –
This photoshoot is about 30 minutes long per person and you’ll get close to 200 shots. You get the shots right then and there. You have the option of selecting up to 4 shots from the shoot and emailing it to The Looking Glass for editing. Turnaround is about a week from when you send the images.
At the time of the booking I paid $180. Price has gone up since then to $195 plus 12% government tax. However, I think it’s so worth it! The Looking Glass team did a good job in making me feel comfortable throughout the shoot while trying a number of different poses.
The water is absolutely breathtaking. Quick tip, make sure to bring shades or a beach hat because the sun will be directly in your eyes, and don’t wear deodorant because it will show in the photos. Because of my top, I was able to wear deodorant. Most importantly, have fun with it!
I visited Turks and Caicos for my birthday with two friends. We stayed at Ports of Call Hotel in Providenciales, only a 5 minute walk from the white sands of Grace Bay Beach. TCI was very relaxing and Grace Bay Beach certainly deserves the title of most beautiful beach in the world. We went on a fun catamaran ride with Caicos Dream Tours.
The delicious food was the most surprising part of the trip. As a seafood lover, I thoroughly enjoyed all the fresh fish, conch fritters, and shrimp. Mr. Grouper’s, Da Conch Shack, and Coco Bistro are all must visits. For drinks, watch the sunset at Infinity Bar, then head to Sand Bar.
Turks & Caicos is absolute heaven. They have the most amazing beaches that immediately melts away your worries when you step on the super soft sand. We got to swim with wild dolphins and visit native iguanas on a little island. It’s a bit expensive, but it is a trip you have to take at least once in your life.
Everything is sold at a huge markup. To put this into perspective, a can of Spam cost $7.50 USD At the local IGA in Provo. If you are in Provo definitely go to the Chinese/Jamaican restaurant there. It’s called Chinson’s grill shack. Allan is the proprietor and he grows a great deal of foods there so that they are locally sourced. One thing about Turks and Caicos is that they don’t export anything so for the most part everything you eat is being imported from Miami. For dinner Graces point is a must. They also have great drinks
TCI is my birthplace! I left at a young age, but took an official baecation there and it was everything I needed to release, relax and recharge! I suggest going on a Wednesday because Thursday is ‘Fish Fry’…and you don’t want to miss it! It’s food, liquor, music, entertainment on the beach! Fresh conch, seafood, you will get it at fish fry! The beaches of the Turks and caicos islands are the most crystal clear. I mostly relaxed and ate. Grace bay area has everything you need.
When it comes to picking the perfect location for the ultimate family getaway, Beaches Turks & Caicos becomes an easy choice. The all-inclusive resort is set on a stunning stretch of Grace Bay, which was voted World’s Best Beach by TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards. The rooms can accommodate up to 12-14 people so the more the merry saying really applies at this resort. The inclusions feature 21 restaurants, unlimited water sports, day care services for all ages, a water park and a ton of entertainment including a professional acrobatic theater company and Sesame Street parades. The list goes on and on and so does the family fun. My favorite activity was simply swimming in the warm ocean til I become a giant prune plus the unlimited drinks weren’t a bad touch either.
Turks and Caicos is more like a home away from home personally. I usually go around 2-3 times a year. It is absolutely worth every penny. For me, it’s a place of comfort, relaxation, excitement and fun. You can never go wrong by traveling to Turks and Caicos.
Turks has some of the most beautiful beaches and the bluest water. I went for a friends birthday and we stayed at the Alexandria Resort. It was such a beautiful place to stay with the amazing beach right at our footsteps. While this trip was a cute coin I thoroughly enjoyed myself. From night time dancing, partying, excursions on the boat, snorkeling , and more. It was truly a wonderful place to visit.
Turks and Caicos was by far my favorite Family Trip. We stayed at the Luxurious 6 bedroom Emerald Villa (Leeward Settlement) which ran $1000/night minus fees. We hired a chef and cleaning service so we didn’t have to do anything but relax and enjoy all that the island had to offer. During our stay we got to partake in the Island Fish Fry which takes place EVERY Thursday and is like an outdoor beach reggae fest with a lot of food and clothing vendors, and a live band from 7p-2am. All you have to do is ask a local on Thursday where the island fish fry because EVERYONE knows about it! I recommend not bringing children to the fish fry because there’s not much for them to do besides eat and after that they will be ready to go (speaking from experience) lol. While I’m Turks we went on a horseback riding excursion with Provo Ponies on the beach and in the ocean which is a must do if you’ve never experienced it. The actual ride was an hour but plan for 2 1/2 hours to find a horse that compliments your riding experience (plenty to choose from). The nightlife was nonstop and we did a lot of bar club hopping to actually tell you where I went because everything is centrally located and pretty much a strip. We always seem to rent a yacht as our family trip signature. It included breakfast, lunch, drinks and snorkeling for 8 hours. I don’t recall the name of the contact we used but it was the marina right up the road from the villa, which you can’t miss. The one thing I will say is the grocery store and gas is HIGH but we had a good time.
I loved every single thing about Turks and Caicos. You must go hang out with the locals at night. I loved the people and the food and the tours. We went Snorkeling and paddle boarding and we saw baby turtles, sharks and sting rays. I was amazing. We also recommend you check out long bay beach. It is secluded and away from the rest. BUT beware of this crazy white bald man with too many tattoos that go around slashing your tires. He is a petty millionaire.
Very beautiful beaches and resorts! It was not affordable though! Be prepared to spend at least $1000 over a few day stay there. Each dinner for 3 of us was $100. Each drink will be $20 a piece so buy your liquor duty free ahead of time you will thank me later. Taxi rides are between $25-50 each way. Also I noticed the locals were a little more helpful to other races because over time they have been known to tip. I was educated by a taxi driver who gave me his info for future trips that I lost! If I find it I will update this blog because he was extremely helpful. Also make sure to go on Thursday night because they have an island fish fry that is amazing!
Turks & Caicos is such a beautiful island. The currency is USD and everything is relatively expensive. Flights are usually inexpensive so if you track the date range you would like to go or use Google flights you can easily land a great deal. There are nice accommodations but they sell out quickly especially the mid-range ones. The island is very quiet but they have staple activities such as Fish Fry on Thursdays where food vendors are set and music is roaring – its like a mini carnival party. Traveling via taxi is like a carpool type of scenario and not too expensive. Liquor is in abundance and its the feel good kind.
There really isn’t much to do in Turks and Caicos but relax honestly. This is where you vacation when you don’t want to do anything. You simply want to rest and relax and reset. The beaches were very gorgeous and the people are nice and welcoming. If you visit on a Thursday (day of the week could have possibly changed now) be sure to check out the Fish Fry event. They have vendors selling food and souvenirs, they place Caribbean music, and will even call some people on stage to dance.
I went here for my birthday a year ago and my goodness, it was beautiful. The multiple shades of blue to look at nonstop took my breath away. I had jerk chicken tacos and my goodness it was mouth watering. I had them a few times because I couldn’t get myself over the taste. At any restaurant, definitely get an order of those!
I’ve been to Turks and Caicos twice and can’t get over how beautiful the water is! This is definitely a place to relax on the beach with your SO, as there wasn’t much partying on this island. A great spot for some R&R. Snorkeling is amazing here and the food is great (get the fresh conch!). Stand-up paddle boarding was fun (SUP Provo). We did the mangrove eco tour and saw baby sharks, fish, rays, etc. It’s a slight workout, but not terribly hard.
Turks and Caicos was definitely a laid back island. The area we visited was pretty small and it seemed as if everyone knew everyone. For this reason, it was perfect for the traveler looking for relaxation. The crystal blue waters are to die for as well.
Although I’d recommend it for relaxing, there is also adventure to be had as well. My fiance and I rented ATV’s and toured the island (here’s the link to the company we used; I emailed them to make our reservation at funtastic.tours@yahoo.com: Link We were the only ones on the tour so that made it a very personalized experience, which was a plus. I’d recommend Turks and Caicos for couples or honeymooners looking to have a relaxing vacay.
We went on a trip to Turks for my best friend birthday. It was 4 of us we stayed at Port of Call Resort for 4 nights. it’s a small resort very affordable and they offered free breakfast. The staff was amazing, very nice and accommodating. The resort had private beach access and beach lounge chair and free activities as paddle boarding for free at your own risk. The resort tried to organized little events at night for the guest which was very nice.Turks Island is a dream,I’ve been to many beaches but nothing compared to Grace bay. Also be aware Turks is not an affordable island it’s very expensive but the view and the water make up for all of it.Taxi are very expensive they charge you per person not per trips a 10-15 mns ride for 4 person can cost you up to 65 USD.Overall i would love to go back I felt at ease no one pressuring you to buy anything.Turks is one of the safest Caribbean island. We all felt safe and at ease.If you’re looking to relax and enjoy the water Turks if Is where to be.
Turks and Caicos is definitely somewhere you go when you just want peace and want to get away from the party scene. It’s such a small island that 3 days is more than enough to experience all it has to offer. The people there are so nice and welcoming. It would be smart to rent a car if you want to get around since there are many car rental spots along the island. The island is not cheap if you’re looking for an “affordable” getaway but it is worth the price. I rented a villa which was much more affordable than staying at one of the resorts which are all clustered together along the island. There are plenty of small shops run by the locals that live there I highly recommend supporting those shops!! Plus the food is much better!!
Although, I did enjoy my time on the island, it definitely took a chunk out of my savings, especially since I did it solo! Even though, I believe that you can come here solo, you definitely should not expect backpacker prices. I only came here for 4 days and that seemed to be enough time to do all of the activities that I wanted to do, so no need to stay longer and spend more money.
Two weeks ago, I took my boyfriend to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos for a birthday trip. These islands are known for have some of the best and most beautiful, crystal clear waters….and let me tell you did they deliver! Now I knew from my prior research, that this wasnt going to be a place that I could party (the way us true island folk do). So if you’re looking for real nightlife, look elsewhere. This island caters 100% to tourists and doesn’t really have the true island/caribbean vibe that I’m so accustomed to (me being from Trinidad and my boyfriend being from Haiti). This was actually pretty disappointing to us, since there were so many Haitian individuals employed and living there. We tried desperately to find “local food” and found a place called Da Conch Shack, where the conch fritters were to die for. But most places were very touristy, oh and the prices everywhere are very high (including the supermarket). All in all, we had a very relaxing and romantic trip. We focused a lot on the beaches and snorkeling and diving. And had a pretty great time together
Visited Grand Turk– loved the Margaritaville for day party. Did the at tour around the island, plenty of shopping. Wouldnt stay here for longer than 5 days, not a whole lot to do besides beaching it!
Have the chance to go there twice and I found this place beautiful each time.
I was in Grand Turk and this island is a magnificent paradise, Turks are famous for the seaside part, the sea is just a mix of wonderful blue, turquoise.
The water of the sea is warm, the beaches are so splendid.
The second time we had a lovely rental house front of the sea and it was not really expensive.
I did an excursion on a boat, we snorkeling, went on an little island with iguana on it, it was a great experience.
If I can, I’ll go there a third time.
You won’t find a better place for a romantic isolation. Clear turquoise water on the white sand beach will bring you to the euphoria that you saw only on TV. Grace bay has a few cute restaurants with patios outside. Be aware of the high import tax that introduces itself in the form of high prices for food in the stores and restaurants. Must visit cafe is “Las Brisas” at the Sapodilla beach, with the view that will leave you astonished. Quiet island with beautiful views.
I traveled to Turks & Caicos in Decemeber for my birthday which is a week before Christmas, so it’s possible I went right before the Christmas travelers arrived. I thought the island was nice, but it ranks on the bottom of the totem pole for the islands that I’ve visited. The island was still recovering from a recent hurricane that had hit & many of the resorts had just opened back up. It’s a very pricey island as everytime my friends and I caught a cab from our resort, we paid a fee per person instead of paying a fee for the ride. So each ride cost us about $10 a person. Besides it being a birthday trip, I also traveled there as a college graduation gift for myself, so in a way I was seeking a relaxation vacation, which the island definitely provided. We stayed at the Sands at Grace Bay which was beyond beautiful, so we spent most of our time at the beach located directly behind our resort and bicycling around the island (free rental via resort). We did get the opportunity to do a booze cruise which was very expensive, as we paid $100 each. However, Turks and Caicos did provide the best snorkeling experience I’ve ever received from an island. They took us to different parts of the ocean where we were not only able to snorkel and to see the undersea life, we were also able to see the amazing coral reef located beneath the ocean. Overall it was a very relaxing trip and I did enjoy myself, however I would not recommend the island for people of color under the age of 30. Majority of the people visiting the island we’re middle aged white people, which is completely fine, but just not ideal for someone in my age group as a birthday trip.
This was one of the most beautiful, surine places I’ve ever been. It’s full of gorgeous beaches and waters. There is a very obvious wide class divide since it’s a very expensive island to visit and own property on.
Loved the locals. Beautiful beaches. Conch and local beer ?
Somewhere cafe was the highlight of my trip. Please make sure that you go and eat here! The conch cerviche was absolutely amazing and you get a great view with your meal. I saw a lot of people snorkeling near by, so you could go
snorkeling before or after your meal!
This place is a literal paradise! Whitest thickest sand ever! The water in beautiful in some places it’s the prettiest teal blue in other places it looks so clear and clean it resembled bottled water. The water was also warm and was gentle like a wave pool. Check out iguana island.
I visited the island as a port on a Carniva cruise in April 2016. We docked in Grand Turk. The island is stunning with crystal clear water. I’m not a swimmer and still had a lot of fun just wading in the water. Since i’m not a strong swimmer I did a submarine ride to see their coral and it was a great alternative. A bit pricey but worth it. I found the locals to be very friendly, a bit too friendly as I was wandering solo while my boyfriend slept on the beach so be cautious but don’t let it get in the way of a gorgeous island.
Beautiful island, food from hotels was great, but local food was definitely worth the a trip, ricks cafe and the conch shack. The Thursday night Fry is a must. The Island is on the expensive side for activities but worth it. I actually had a better experience at the tourist club / karaoke Danny’s
My experience was amazing! The islanders treated my friend and I like we were family and invited us to their home where they were celebrating because it was elections day. There was plenty of food and drinks and we enjoyed ourselves. It’s a pretty small island so the taxi rides are like 2-3$ to get around. Make sure you get there for the Fish fry that is held every Thursday. That’s kind of like the the main event of each week. On The island you can relax, party at clubs with good music, go snorkeling on new yachts for less than $100, and even go horse back riding. MUST VISIT!
