Trip of a lifetime. This was back in 2002 but I will never forget it. It started with having a choir welcoming us when we got off the plane with a "welcome home" song. It was seeing the history (visiting the museum dedicated to Kwame Nkrumah) to visiting a slave castle to happening upon a funeral in a small village we stopped at randomly as we traveled. The picture above is from that visit and that's my dad who was named honorary Chief and they paraded him out and the villagers cheered and it was a moment I will never forget. Every Black person should visit somewhere in Africa. The way it touches you is like no other.
We spent one week in Costa Rica last summer and it was absolutely beautiful. We stayed at Riu Guanacaste which was an all inclusive. The views were amazing but the accommodations were dated and the food was meh. The best food we had was on an excursion to a brewery and that food was incredible. We would definitely go back but not stay at the same place.
Left my heart in Montreal. We stayed in a renovated apartment building that are now basically air bnbs in the heart of the city. Ironically it was the SAME weekend as Jazzfest! I hate crowds so when I tell you that I was getting my life that weekend. It felt just right at home and I felt so peaceful and welcome. The weather was perfect (we went in early July) and every place was walkable or easily accessible by mass transit. And omg the DIVERSITY! I saw any and everyone, tasted all the foods and it was just a vibe. It's the place I want to expat to.
