A Little About Me:
I live in Southern California with my husband. We're newlyweds and we try and travel every chance we can get.
Definitely a chill island that moves at a sloooooow pace but it was really nice and relaxing. I stayed for 5 days last May 2018 and that was even too long. I would recommend staying 3 - 4 days max if you're looking for more adventure. There were no cars on the island. The locals used golf carts and bikes or just walked. It didn't take very long to walk from one end of the island to the other. Also, the only way to get to the island was by boat. The boat ride took about 45 minutes. The food was ok. It was fresh but nothing to write home about. My fave restaurant was the one we ate at for breakfast called Crepes and Dreams. The food was bomb and the owner was super friendly. All the locals were really nice in general. I went snorkeling on the island and that was absolutely amazing. Its the second largest reef (Australia is the first) with beautiful, colorful fish and the water was really warm. Off the island, I went zip lining, saw the Mayan Ruins at Altun Ha and also went cave tubing. It was a bundle deal we bought on the island where we got to do all 3 in one day and we had a guide the entire time that included transportation. The only thing that was annoying was the heat and humidity. That was the most humidity I've ever experienced in my life! It was hot and sticky the whole time. There were also a lot of stray dogs. They didn't really bother you unless you were eating. Oh and the rainy season starts from June to November. We went the last week in May until June 1st and it literally rained all day on June 1st.
We went to Vegas in August for my husbands birthday and it was like an oven...HOT!!! We enjoyed where we stayed though. :) We stayed at the Hilton Elara in a suite. It's a resort style beautiful 4-star hotel and located right in the center of the stip (across from the Cosmopolitan). You have to walk through the mall (Miracle Mile Shops) to get to it which was a pain at times but we got used to it. And the mall has over 170 stores and restaurants so it was easy to shop. Also, there is no casino in the hotel either which is nice because you don't have to smell all the cigarette smoke or hear a bunch of slot machines all night.
I fell in love with Hawaii. It's so beautiful!! My husband and I went in March during spring break and it was super busy but that didn't stop us from having a great time. We stayed at the Hokulani Waikiki by Hilton Grand Vacations and it's right in the middle of everything from shopping, dining and the beach. The beach was about a 5-minute walk from our hotel. We went on two hikes, parasailing and went to a luau. The first hike we went on was the one at Diamond Head. There were a ton of people there but we still had a good time and got some great pics. It was about a 30-40 minute hike but definitely, include more time to take pics. We parked onsite and it costs about $20 bucks from what I remember. We also had to wait in a line for about 15 minutes until we could park but it wasn't so bad and overall was worth it. The second was the Pillbox hike. That was a bit scary because of all the incline and rocks. There was rope at times to hang on to and to pull yourself up but it was still a bit scary for me. There is no parking there so we parked at the beach (for free) and walked through the neighborhood to the trail which took an additional 10 or so minutes which wasn't so bad. For the parasailing and the luau, we bought the tickets on Groupon. It was definitely worth it! The Groupon we bought for parasailing was through Paradise Water Sports. I believe there was metered parking in a lot. Check in was easy and the experience was awesome. The only downfall was if you get motion sickness because being on that boat was no joke. My stomach was in knots but it helped to sit closer to the engine. The Luau we went to was the Ka Moana Luau. The tickets on Groupon were only $88 and that included a buffet, 1 drink, classic seating (technically in the back but we still had a great view) and free admission to Sea Life Park to use within 7 days. The food was great, there were interactive activities, the whole experience was great! Oh and I can't forget about the beautiful sunsets on the beach and there are also fireworks every Friday at Waikiki Beach.
